Twists and turns

I really liked the 'blurb' so I gave it a go, but I found a bit confusing, not the easiest book to get into but worth perservering. I really love Gwendolyn Druyor's narration. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

I am and I am not. I exist but where and for what?

The course of true love, it is said, does not run smoothly and nowhere would this be better illustrated than in Gwendolyn Druyor's book, Geoffrey's Queen. It is a beautifully written and narrated (also by the author) story of love separated not only by place but also by time, and is presented not in a linear progression with flashbacks, as is often employed, but with much greater complexity as the protagonists are swirled through time and different worlds, meeting and parting, all the while caught up in an adventure quest that also dictates the future. Confused? Of course you are. So was this reader, In fact, initially, the book was started twice before my reading on, continuing in the hope of a better grasp on what was happening. But it was worth it. Just like my time as a child, sticking together a length of paper with a twist and marvelling at the continuous line that I could then draw covering both sides of the Mobius Strip.

The story is presented in the first person, set down by the main protagonists in journals which they keep. The writing is beautiful, simply worded but full of description conveyed in a few words, .'like a vegetarian tiger', fresh and colourful. There are battles, good characterisation, and dragons. Yes, I confess, I really do not like dragons, but I put up with them this time, not too high a price to pay for the rest of the story. This is a book to which I know I will return in the future, something I rarely do, especially given the Mobious ending.

My thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy of Geoffrey s Queen, via F.A.F.A. It was an innovative and unexpected delight. Authors reading their own work can often be a big mistake but Ms.Druyor's narration was a definite success. Her pleasant to hear voice is well modulated, paced to the text perfectly and she gives individual voicing to each of the protagonists, further adding to their character. A good performance of an equally distinctive and unusual book. Perhaps I will now have to brave the dragons once again and read her other Mobious novel, Hardt's Tale.

An interesting approach to story telling

What did you like most about Geoffrey's Queen?

I like the way the two characters grew throughout the book

What was one of the most memorable moments of Geoffrey's Queen?

When they both realized who Kelly was.

What does Gwendolyn Druyor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She brought emphasis to the characters though her narration. She put a great deal of passion into them that print would not have brought out. Her narration was great and added much to the book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

To realize the frustration that the two characters must have when the book ended and they did not know how their futures would play out.

Any additional comments?

This book was provided to me free of charge in exchange for a review.

The story was hard to follow at first. This is due to the story being told across two worlds and time lines. In each of these one of the characters knew the other but one did not. It reversed itself in the other reality. It took me most of the book bouncing from one world to the other to figure out what was going on and follow the story. It was overall very entertaining and I stuck with it and was glad when I finished the book.

The quest of the young prince to find his queen was to allow him to not only find his love but to grow to manhood as he was not allowed to do in the palace.

The trials he faced and the meeting of the person who ended up as his love was fraught with peril and missteps.

He also learned during this quest about his own people regardless of who or what they were.
