"A vigorous, sparkling, and entertaining love story with plenty of Austen-ite wit." (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)

"One of the most highly anticipated books of the fall historical romance lineup." (Austenprose)

She couldn't forget....

Wealthy squire's daughter Margaret Honeywell was always meant to marry her neighbor, Frederick Burton-Smythe, but it's bastard-born Nicholas Seaton who has her heart. Raised alongside her on her father's estate, Nick is the rumored son of notorious highwayman Gentleman Jim. When Fred frames him for theft, Nick escapes into the night, vowing to find his legendary sire. But Nick never returns. A decade later, he's long been presumed dead.

He wouldn't forgive....

After years spent on the continent, John Beresford, Viscount St. Clare has finally come home to England. Tall, blond, and dangerous, he's on a mission to restore his family's honor. If he can mete out a bit of revenge along the way, so much the better. But he hasn't reckoned for Maggie Honeywell. She's bold and beautiful - and entirely convinced he's someone else.

As danger closes in, St. Clare is torn between love and vengeance. Will he sacrifice one to gain other? Or, with a little daring, will he find a way to have them both?

I just couldn’t stop playing this well thought out story and the reader did rather well with the different characters looking forward to listening to a lot more.

Great story

I really enjoyed this book. I often find this genre filled with fluff and poor writing, but Mimi Matthews is a great author. I was sucked into the story and the character development, and enjoyed it so much I didn’t stop listening to it and was up until 7am after listening through the night. I really liked this author’s “The Work of Art” book in the past too, so I’ll definitely be getting more from this author now. Alex Wyndham is a fantastic match for this story too, and his narration was perfect. Mimi Matthews builds the chemistry and intimacy between the characters, and writes chemistry fuelled kissing scenes, without feeling the need to do porn scenes. There’s no awkward “fade to black” that you get in some more prudish stories, and there’s not the forced in sexy scenes to tick the “erotic” box which sometimes feels a bit awkward in other stories. Mimi writes exactly what’s needed to build the story and the relationship very naturally. If she ever chose to write sex scenes I have no doubt they’ll be far better than other books - but she doesn’t need to. If you like this author, you’ll probably enjoy Stella Riley books too. She’s another one that’s a cut above the rest in this genre.

The stories by Mimi Matthews and narrations by Alex Wyndham are so entertaining. This one has everything you could want in a book. Romance, intrigue, awful relatives and a good plot.
Loved it I am just loading the next in the series
