the Rest of the Story

For me, Ortlund has underlined the important texts about Christ's love for me. I know the Scriptures and the glory of the plan of redemption....personally and for the Church. I know theology and the great truths of the faith. I know that I am saved, justified, in the process of being sanctified and soon to be glorified. But Ortlund has shown me in substantial ways woven from God's Word just how the heart of Christ , gentle and lowly, is and has always been aimed directly at me, to comfort me, to show me the riches,of his grace daily BECAUSE I am unworthy, yet it is his delight, indeed his nature, to do so. As I read Ortlund and his many quotes of the Bible and the Puritans, my sense of Who God is got bigger and my comfort with His presence more sweet... thank you for this wonderful book. Must reading for my whole family as I consider that each may have missed this too.

Deep Dive into Encouragement

Wow. I didn’t know how much I needed this book. Dane’s states goal in this book is to explore the “heart of Christ.” In chapter after chapter, he leads us to consider the glories of his grace, mercy, love, and manifold perfections. Unlike many other books that aim to encourage struggling Christians, Dane is thoroughly and carefully grounds his writing in scripture. This book is not theology light - but it is also not theologically inaccessible. Every chapter is grounded in the exposition of scripture and rich with Dane’s meditation on Puritan writing. But the whole book is wrapped in gentle accessibility that will make it inviting to every reader, regardless of previous theological study. I’ll be buying this book in bulk to share with others. It’s that good.

Matt. 22:37 in vivid color

The Christ said that loving God with all of our heart, all of our soul, and all of our mind Is the foundation for all of the Law and the prophets. This book vividly articulates that His ‘command’ for us to love Him totally and intensely is in reality is a ‘plea’ from His heart that aches for us, begging us to love Him in the same way that He has been loving us since before the foundation of the world.

This book is not biblical.

Beware of this book! This book takes scripture out of context to make the authors argument. It is dangerous! Church read your Bible in context. God is Holy! This book should have no stars, but to post a review you need to click the stars.

Worth it.

This book was a blessing. A necessary commentary on the heart of Christ that causes you to wonder at the mystery of his heart towards sinners. It’s made me run to Jesus more frequently and honestly.
