Every leadership problem you're trying to solve — retention, trust, engagement, even your AI rollout — has a generational layer underneath it that nobody's naming.

For the first time in history, six generations are working side by side, each running a different code: instincts written by a different world, for a different kind of survival. Traditionalists learned that structure holds the center. Baby Boomers learned that effort is identity. Gen X learned to trust competence over title. Millennials learned to ask if they matter. Gen Z is asking if they can be themselves here. Gen Alpha is asking what none of the rest of us had to: can I stay human?

You've felt the friction and mislabeled it a hundred ways. Resistant. Entitled. Disengaged. Too sensitive. Generational CODES® 3.0+ makes the case that this isn't a motivation problem. It's a translation problem — and until you read the code instead of judging the behavior, you'll keep solving the wrong problem.

Ask anyone "So — what do you do?" and listen to the shape of the answer. Across six generations, that one question is the fastest diagnostic in the book.

Inside:

  • The six codes, decoded — what shaped each generation, what they protect, and the question each carries silently into every conversation
  • Why codes are algorithms, not ransomware — you can see them, question them, and update them
  • REAL Inquiry™ — a four-step practice that replaces snap judgment with real understanding
  • The 10/10/10™ — a monthly rhythm that catches friction before it becomes attrition
  • The SHA Factor™ — what every generation needs to do its best work: to be Seen, Heard, and Appreciated

Anna Liotta has spent twenty-five years in the rooms where teams get stuck — not because the team is difficult, but because it's holding six worlds and no translator. She grew up in a family of nineteen children spanning six generations.

You will see the people you work with differently. More accurately. More generously.

This would suit anyone who manages a team but doesn’t have time for another abstract leadership theory. Liotta gives you a way to think about the different assumptions people bring to work, then offers practices you can actually use in meetings and check-ins.

I especially liked the emphasis on noticing what a person may be trying to protect before deciding they’re being difficult. There’s a lot of material here, so I wouldn’t expect to absorb every detail in one go. But if you’re often translating between longtime staff and newer hires, you’ll find plenty to consider.

The book nudged me to get curious before deciding what someone meant. It offers a simple reminder to ask open questions instead of guessing what is behind someone’s reaction.

I expected a fairly tidy rundown of age groups, but the book kept returning to practical questions about what people need from work and from one another. The six codes are easy to keep straight, and the examples gave me a way to connect the ideas to conversations I’ve actually had.
I listened in short stretches, which suited the book. I could pause after a section, then come back without needing to rebuild the whole argument. The “So, what do you do?” prompt especially stuck with me; I’ve started paying more attention to how people answer instead of rushing to fill the silence.

I’d listen to this again, especially with the six-generation framework in mind. The first time through, I was busy sorting the codes; next time, I think I’ll catch more of the assumptions hiding in everyday workplace exchanges.

The SHA Factor gave me a useful way to think about what people need to contribute well: to feel seen, heard, and appreciated. Some ideas landed more strongly than others, but the practical prompts gave me something to try.
