Disgraced former detective Mike Humber gets off a train in the bleak autumn countryside, his mind haunted by a dark past.

A new job awaits. Huntington House needs a live-in security guard to prevent access during an inheritance dispute.

This is exactly what Mike needs: a new start in a new place and a chance to turn things around.

It all seems perfect, especially when he meets Tessa.

But Huntington House holds dark secrets. Bumps in the night. Flickering lights. Music playing from somewhere.

Mike’s mind starts to unravel as he questions his sanity in the dark, claustrophobic corridors and rooms.

Something isn’t right.

There is someone else in the house.

The pressure grows as the people around Mike get pulled into a web of lies and manipulation, forcing him to take action before it’s too late.©2024 R. R. Haywood (P)2024 W F Howes Ltd Dark Humour Gothic Horror Literature & Fiction Psychological Thriller & Suspense

Interesting but slightly predictable, well narrated and good solid performance but the story lacks depth.

Loved the book which didn’t surprise me at all, there is not one book I have read of R R Haywood’s that I haven’t loved & I’ve read them all!
This man is a writing genius! (obviously the undead is my fav & I never ever want that series to come to an end) but looking forward to all his future books! 🥰

R R Haywood does it again ❤️

I fell into this book and finished it in 24 hours. it was really good. The main character has his flours but he's so likeable. The story flows and I found myself gripped to the brilliant ending. Really hope there will be more books about Mike. This book is highly recommend!

twisty dark and sometimes funny story

Right from the beginning this audible caught my interest.
The Narrator was brilliant. Which can make or break it for me. I had cottoned on to the plot quite quickly.....but still, it was very well written. I will listen to another of this authors books. Bravo... 👏

Great 👍

Great characters with a devious plot and plenty of guessing of how things would turn out! I didn’t see it coming….
