Summary

Follow the fortunes of three of the Seven Kingdom's most prestigious and powerful houses: the Baratheons, the Martells, and the Tyrells.

See how they each conquered and held the rich, fertile kingdoms of the Stormlands, Dorne, and the Reach, and just why it is that the families of Game of Thrones are eager to avenge themselves on one another. Here is the story of how Orys Baratheon founded House Baratheon through fury and the fire of dragons and how that house eventually produced the Kings Robert and Stannis of the beloved series. Why is it that House Martell hates the Lannisters and all of the other Houses fear dealing with them? How did House Tyrell come to command the richest and greatest armies of all Westeros from their lowly origins as stewards?

The second volume of Game of Thrones: A Family History has all of these answers and more!

Strong recommend to those new to the series

I listened to this during a long car journey with my brother. We listened to book 1 and 2 in the series. As mentioned for book 1, my brother enjoyed it since he is quite new to the series, so he found this useful. Those more up-to-date and who have read the books will find part of this useful but also much of it already known. So a strong recommend for those new to the series

Enjoyed Book 1, and Book 2 just as good

Having listened to book 1 I was intrigued to try out book 2 - equally good and informative. Thanks for this good background information to the series.

great background info

Great info to fill in the history of Westeros and clarify the back story on so many characters and the rains they despise each other

Not much information

I won't say that this is bad or that it doesn't serve a purpose, but I really didn't find much information that wasn't already covered in the actual books. The performance was alright, but nothing incredible.

It's a history, not a story

This is a massive history timeline of how the Orys Baratheon founded House Baratheon through fury and the fire of dragons and how that house eventually produced the Kings Robert and Stannis. This isn't THE Game of Thrones stories we have seen on HBO or read with George RR Martin. It's a good refresher and helps you keep track of who is who and in what house and so forth. But, it is quite a bit of information. If you are a big fan of the series and need help reviewing, this is it.

Enjoyed it more than the book

Listened to this with my partner. This is an easy listen and quite informative. I actually preferred it to the book which I hope the author won't mind me saying had a few typos but which is handled well by the narrator. Listened to it in my car - decent quality narration.

Should interest all GAME OF THRONE fans

This book is straight to the point and gives a good run-down on the main family lines in the GAME OF THRONE novels. Big fans like myself should enjoy this, giving additional useful background information about the many main characters in the novel. I liked it and found it useful.
