Summary

Meet the galaxy's unluckiest outlaws.

Carl Ramsey is an ex-Earth Navy fighter pilot turned con man. His ship, the Mobius, is home to a ragtag crew of misfits and refugees looking to score a big payday but more often just scratching to pay for fuel. The crew consists of his ex-wife (and pilot), a drunkard, four-handed mechanic, a xeno-predator with the disposition of a 120kg housecat, and the galaxy's most-wanted wizard.

Along the way, the Mobius crew crosses paths with the Black Ocean's vilest scum, from pirate fleets to criminal syndicates, and most law-abiding scum, including Earth Interstellar Enhanced Investigative Organization, ARGO high command, and the Convocation of Wizards.

Time and again, riches lie just out of reach, because for all the talents Carl Ramsey and his crew possess, they've also got an outlaw's greatest weakness: a conscience.

Galaxy Outlaws is a collection of all 16 Black Ocean missions chronicling the adventures of the starship Mobius and her crew, along with six short stories. This series is the perfect cure for the Firefly Season 2 blues. It's what you'd get if The Orville took place on Serenity, or if Star Wars had wizards instead of Jedi.

WOW!

This series has been my listening life for nearly 2 weeks and now it's over... I'm not sure what I'm going to with myself! It definitely fills the gaping hole left by firefly but also leaves you wanting more.

This narrator should NOT try accents! 😂

I'm only on the 3rd book in the series but I'm struggling to keep going. the narrator is great with US accents but should stick to that. If he can't do anything English accent, why or earth did he attempt south African!?

Just fantastic

Characters show growth. It is funny and dramatic. Light on cliché and heavy on the weird and wonderful

Utterly Fantastic

This was my first audio book. I didn’t know what to expect. I was drawn to it from my love of space faring sci-fi. From playing the video Game; Elite Dangerous. And from the link to Firefly.
As soon as narrator Naramore began, I was hooked - his talent for bringing Morin’s amazing characters to life was astounding. His vocal tone was perfect for what was to become an epic journey through “The Black Ocean”
I listened, in the car on my way to work, relaxing in the bath and pottering about the house and garden doing chores.
The cast of characters were extraordinary, with plots to match. I can’t rate this highly enough. Well done J.S. Morin and Mikael Naramore, together you’ve created a masterpiece. O7

Amazingly great!

My only criticism of this is that it ends!

Well worth getting and listening too.

Fun to listen to.

Great narrator and great narrative. Does all the voices spot on and you have no issues determing who is speaking. Very talented. The plots of the missions are very good and you get invested in each of the characters and feel a part of the crew and part of the family. Mort is the standout character and comes off as a real bastard but with a lovable side to him. Great idea to use magic to bypass the hard science and makes it believable. Esper is fun. Definitely good value for money at over 88 hours of storytelling for a single credit. Will definitely be listening at least a couple more times. Kubu wasn't really needed though but Roddy is a great character even if he's a lush. Could have used a bit more sex though; hence the four stars. Mort's battle with the "god" D'Brah is classic; if you can call it a battle seeing how D'Brah is a much lesser wizard than Mort s "battle." I love how be decided to finish him off with not magic but by bashing his skull in with his staff. Classic Mort. Carl's a great leader and character, or characters given his vast multiple personalities. Great listen and one of those you can't really use to go to sleep with considering it's too engaging. But, that's what I've got The Great Courses for nodding off to. Good job all round!

Firefly continued.

Okay, it is not Firefly continued, but you won't need the authors closing comments at the end of the book to know what inspired this book. Everything about it is similar to the TV show from the characters, the ship and the missions they tend to take, followed by fail/succeed at That might sound bad, but there is plenty enough difference to make this it's own story rather than a copy of Firefly or that universe. The book is broken up by missions instead of chapters and it works well. The characters are all funny, different and we even get the added twist of magic in a tech driven universe. The narration if frankly, brilliant. All characters individually voiced, but it's not just that, but the fact I can really picture that is the voice those characters would have. Serious kudos to the narrator, I think he alone pushed this from overall 4 star to 5 for me. It's hellishly long, but given the fact it's broken into missions it's not hard to listen to. Overall if you are a fan of sci-fi and a fan of Firefly in particular, then this is a must listen.

Wowsers

I really enjoyed the entire series. I loved Firefly and Serenity and immediately fell in love with the black ocean universe and characters. Have no idea where to go from here! Sad times!
