Many layers and skilfully drawn new characters draw one in. Dallas and Roarke along with the old hands not only solve a timely case but continue to develop as interesting characters in their own rights.

Eve and Peabody investigate 2 brutal killings, they’re linked through their work place and so the investigation begins. While violent it’s hard to not feel great sympathy for the perpetrator. At the end a fabulous house party and a beautiful surprise. Excellent narration as always

I cannot tell you how much I love this series, Dallas and Roarke are both amazing, quirky characters...not quite as quirky as some of the cast, but unique, flawed and lovable in their own ways. I love that as the series has progressed Eve has got more comfortable with telling Roarke she loves him, with showing her emotions around him and allowing us to see the slightly softer side she denies having. That doesn't mean that she has lost her kickass, blunt and abrupt manner outside of their home, she is still all of those tings and more, including one of the best detectives we have ever seen.
This case is horrifyingly brutal and from the outset she pegs it as revenge, but it is also heartwrenchingly sad and whilst the revenge is not right...it is understandable. Eve once again finds herself facing off with the rich and influencial, a corporation who thinks they cannot be touched and they can threaten or buy themselves out trouble...not on Eve's watch, nor the watch of her superiors who don't hesitate to back her. She nudges, she digs, she pressures and she connects puzzle pieces that others miss, including the needless deaths of hundreds of innocent people, which only makes her more determined to find justice for those innocent that were murdered. Another fantastic investigation and another awesome visit with Dallas, Roarke, Peabody and every other member of the supporting cast that make each book like returning to visit family. Crazy, over the top, interfering, loud, annoying but wonderful family. I listened to this on Audible.
