Summary
After a tip-off, a man's body is exhumed from a shallow grave in Edinburgh. Murder surely, yet he died from natural causes, so, case closed? Indeed was there ever a case? But Chief Constable Skinner and his people keep on digging. Who was the man, why was he buried so reverentially, and by whom? Meanwhile corruption is discovered within the force, and an investigation launched. Immersed in crises, his marriage heading for the rocks, Skinner finds his very career hanging in the balance, its fate beyond his control. Can he win out, or will his life implode?

Poor Scottish accents
Unfortunately even though I love these stories the females narrator was very poor at Scottish accents and I found listening most irritating

Please use narrators who are able to use an accurate Scottish accent and not on that sounds Northern Irish!
As usual a gripping storyline. Good idea to use different narrators. The American accent was ok for Sarah but her Scottish one grated and sounded Northern Irish. I almost stopped listening because of it but my curiosity got the better of me.

Awful
Where does Funeral Note rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Have read all the Bob Skinner books but the narration of this one really irrated me, Some narrators called Bob's daughter Shona - Sinead and Bob's wife Aileen _ Eileen I thought these new names were new characters in the book. Apart from this the book was ok.

James Bryce on his own
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No the narration and the mispronounced character names were irritating and spoilt the listening pleasure.

l love Quintin Jardine books. This one was spoiled by some of the narrators in terms of accents and pronunciation

interesting/annoying change that almost works
this is the first book to use different points of view to tell the story. as such, they've got different voice actors for different characters.
whilst I'd rather just listen to James Bryce the whole time, the idea makes sense and does kind of work.
it would be ok after the first few chapters if not for the woman who plays Sarah, she's fine for Sarah but is unbearable when she tries to do a Scottish accent for the other characters, I doubt the woman has ever even heard a Scot. almost had to skip her sections due to how annoying her terrible Irish accent was

Although I really enjoyed the story I was disappointed by the narration in some places it would have been better if James Bryce had read all the Skinner dialog

Fab apart from appalling accent
The narrator of Sarah had the kind of fake Scottish accent that make me grind my teeth in frustration and pain
