Summary
Orphaned at 18, a naïve and solitary Chris Pritchard joins the Metropolitan Police in search of a family, friends and a regular income. He is posted to Stoke Newington police station in London’s tough East End. Despite barely concealed contempt for her hapless new charge, his experienced instructor, WPC Dawn Matthews, puppy walks him through a journey, which is regularly amusing, frequently sad and occasionally bizarre. You will not listen to a more accurate account of how London was policed a generation ago.

Soooo good!
Please, audible - you HAVE to get the other six in the series, and the sooner the better!! (I’ll even forgive the brilliant narrator his hilarious mispronunciation of “indictable”…)

Great story
I hung on every word in this book. It was one of those books that you want to get back to. I enjoyed the relationships, especially since the story is based on real people of the time. It contains the full range of emotions and was exceptionally well read.

Brilliant
Such a brilliantly wonderful book. Couldn’t stop listening. The narration was so good it left you feeling as if you was listening to a friend and experiencing it all with him. The story of a new police officer and his very steep learning curve, trained and assisted by a characterful WPC. The highs and lows of his first 3 months on the job some very touching moments along side some hilarious mistakes he made. A shocking ending will leave any listener wanting to hear book 2, if there is one. I’m now on a quest to find out and if so purchase it immediately.

Great book, very believable!
This is a great book, some of the accents of the narrator are not the best but the storyline of the book is fantastic. It’s a shame the rest of the series of books have not been recorded as audiobooks as I would love to listen to the rest! Well Done Jonathan an amazing book.

Fantastic!
Absolutely loved this book. I felt like I was there with them. Some hearty belly laughs and sad moments also. Shame the rest of series is not on audible as the narrator was great. I’ll be carrying on with kindle though!

Spot on!
I really enjoyed the first book on Audible.
Having worked as a nurse in London and known members of the Met and other emergency workers, the story rings so true.
Jonathan tells a great tale and brings his character’s to life and makes them believable.
I so hope the rest of the series can come to Audible.
