Summary

A little boy turns the perfect crime into a work of art.

Dylan is the only boy living in the tiny Welsh town of Manod. His parents run the Snowdonia Oasis Auto Marvel garage - and when he's not trying to persuade his sisters to play football, Dylan is in charge of the petrol log. And that means he gets to keep track of everyone coming in and out of Manod - what car they drive, what they're called, even their favourite flavour of crisps. But when a mysterious convoy of lorries trundles up the misty mountainside towards an old, disused mine, even Dylan is confounded. Who are these people - and what have they got to hide?

A story inspired by a press cutting describing how, during WWII, the treasured contents of London's National Gallery were stored in Welsh slate mines. Once a month, a morale-boosting masterpiece would be unveiled in the village and then returned to London for viewing. This is a funny and touching exploration of how Art - its beauty and its value - touches the life of one little boy and his big family in a very small town.

This is one of the best books I've read this year

I love this amazing book so does my family ☺🙃🙂👌🖒. As well as my whole family liking this it is also read with lovely Welsh accent if you read the book on audible.
My mum says it's funny, poignant, original and delicious.

totally amazing

This book was really good because it was set on a mountain, but maybe
at the end you could have said what Marie was doing with Max, and the flash in her room.😀😃🤔

My favourite book/audiobook

This is, without a doubt, my favourite book of all time. I never get bored of it, despite having listened to it hundreds of times. The voice of Dylan is very believable as a young boy and his view of the world makes for a charming and funny story. The story is simultaneously lighthearted and clever, and the characters are varied and believable. Jason Hughes reads the story wonderfully, and his Welsh accent is perfect for the setting of the story. I cannot recommend enough!

We are loving this book

What made the experience of listening to Framed the most enjoyable?

The narration is spot on. If I had to pick hairs then I would say that a Valleys accent is wrong for Snowdonia, but it's still done by a real Welshman so all the words like "Legend!" just work.

The details and characters have been so well written that everyone jumps out from the page.

What did you like best about this story?

We haven't finished it yet, but we love all the observation that's gone into it.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I loved the way Terrible Evans reacted in the cave (don't want to put any spoilers in here), and I love the description of Manod Wednesdays.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

You can't help but get involved with all the characters in the book. You feel all the highs and lows and excitement with the characters and in this respect it is particularly well written.

Any additional comments?

I'm listening to this with my 6 year old son. He's really enjoying it but will probably understand more of it in a year or so. One to grow into.

We've come to it via Frank Cottrell Boyce's sequel to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which is a very exciting listen.
