About this listen

She’s a disgraced pop star. He’s the frontman of Black Rosary. Their worlds are about to collide and nothing will ever be the same again.

Ten years ago, I fell in love. The pop princess and the rock star. On paper, we should never have worked. In public, she was a sweet girl-next-door bubble-gum pop singer. But when we were together, her passion matched mine. I was ready to make her mine forever, and then she told me it was over.

Five years ago I walked away from him. He was everything I shouldn’t want, yet the only thing I’d ever craved. My contract demanded I uphold a certain reputation. So we had to keep our relationship a secret, because we didn't fit the mold. But then my label found out, and they gave me two options. Lose him or lose everything.

I listened to this narrated by the wonderful Thomas Locklear (Damn that man's voice when he growls!).

After listening to Forgotten Legacy series where Marley is introduced, I was so looking forward to this. And I was not disappointed. Marley, the front man to rock band Black Rosary, has a secret relationship with Rain, the manufactured pop star. When things go wrong, Rain lets Marley believe the reason was her fault. As with any good romance, it never stops there. Rain goes through some serious trauma that she keeps hidden, but Marley is there, 5 years later, to deal with it.

Lee Ann writes these rock stars so well. They are freaking lovable even when they are being shitty. Marley has morals even when he's been hurt. There is always multi-layers to her storytelling, which always keeps you invested. She's one of my favorite writers for keeping the page turning, because everything is written with a purpose. There's no fillers for the sake of just writing more. You really don't want to put the book down.

There's angst and spice and happily ever after. Oh, and there's Thomas Locklear's growls (swoon!).

Marley is my rockstar

I admit I didn't think that L. Ann would be able to match the perfection of the Forgotten Legacy Series, but I was wrong this book is superb, with a storyline spanning years it tells a story which can't help but touch the listener it's a story of forbidden love, of controlling greedy men and of a young woman who from the age of six has been owned and controlled entirely by her manager and record label.

Rain aka Rainbow's life may have looked like a fairytale from the outside, the girl next door who became a pop princess adored by her fans but in reality her life was anything but perfect. How could it be when every aspect of her life was controlled absolutely by her overly controlling manager and the Board of her record label? She longed for her 26th birthday when she would finally be free!

When she was 21 she met Marley Stone, frontman of Black Rosary at an award ceremony and everything changed. But because of her contract, they kept their relationship a secret as, under the terms of her contract, she has to have the approval of the Board to date anyone and Marly would not be deemed suitable. So for five years, the two met in secret whenever they could then when there were only months left until her birthday and the end of her contract the manager/label decided she had to be seen dating a man of their choice, a man who by being seen with her will earn them more money!

Marley has been patient but when he sees her in the other man's arms he begins to doubt that it's all pretence. After five years of hiding his love for her, five years of sneaking around it's too much and he asks her if she's been unfaithful when she doesn't answer he tells her it's over.

What he doesn't know is that the record label has found a way to bring her to heel, that's why she didn't answer. But finally, the demands of her manager and her label become too much and Rain decides enough is enough and walks away. She's breaking her contract but she's beyond caring. She disappears from the scene and it's five years before she and Marley meet again. But the woman Marley meets is nothing like the woman he knew, why is she living as she is? Why is she a shadow of her former self?

This is an awesome read with some mind-blowing twists. The story is intricately woven, and the characters are perfectly drawn and totally believable, I fell in love with Marley and my heart broke for what Rain suffered but with Marley by her side she found herself again.

The book ends on something of a cliffhanger so I can't wait to listen to the next book.

This book is narrated superbly by Thomas Locklear and Elise Hoffman, they brought every emotion to the fore and believe me this is a very emotional story. All the characters are perfectly brought to life. For Thomas, he was revisiting characters he already knew but for Elise, this was a new venture.

If you only ever listen to one audiobook, make it this one, Fractured Angel by L Ann, as this audiobook is beyond amazing.

I've read the story previously and have to admit to it being a personal favourite because Marley ...... but to listen to it is a whole other thing. The narration by Tjomas Locklear and Elise Hofman elavates the whole experience to phenomenal.

I can not recommend this audiobook highly enough.

I have loved all of L. Ann’s books so far and this is no exception. I had been waiting forever for Marley and Rains story so when I got it I grabbed it and held on for dear life reading it. This is a powerful insight into how bad artists can be taken advantage of. They can lose out on everything in a heartbeat from their royalties to their own sanity wondering which way is the best to turn at a time of crisis. This is the raw and gritty story that L. Ann tells but Thomas Locklear and Elise Hoffman bring all that to life in such a realistic way. The way they perform the roles was fantastic and has you feeling everything within the story. This was definitely one to listen to alone with headphones. I’m looking forward to listening to this author/ narrator combo again soon as they all have a fabulous chemistry that seems to bring out the best of everything the collaborate in.
