Summary

Welcome to Fortune Academy, a school where supernaturals can feel at home — except, I have no idea what the hell I am.

The last thing I remember is arriving at the massive gates with a Bounty Hunter staring me down. I have a feeling he was supposed to take me to the monster holding arena to fight and die. Instead, I'm Fortune Academy's newest student.

I can relate to the monsters in ways the other students can't. My mentor, who is way too hot for his own good, tells me my behavior is the result of my memory loss and that I'm just trying to identify with a past pain that I've buried too far to feel. I think he's wrong. I think the reason I can't relate to any of the students is because I'm one of the monsters they're trained to kill.

I don't fit into any of the supernatural cliques, but that doesn't stop me from collecting bullies. A brawny alpha shifter, a moody dark mage, and a playboy demi-god have decided to break me. They think I don't have any powers and that I was recruited by mistake. It'll be their funeral if they push me too far, because this girl isn't taking any of their shit.

My name is Lily Fallen, but don't let my pretty face fool you. I'm a monster in a school uniform and it's only a matter of time before I teach my bullies a lesson they won't forget.

Fortune Academy: Year One is the first of three novels in an upper YA/NA paranormal academy series. Expect a slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance where there are five guys and no choosing required!

Loved It

Really good story that humanises the concept of supernatural beings. Glad the ages set it at university as it made it more relatable to adults.

Excellent

This is Book 1 in the series. J R Thorn has done it again. This book has literally everything and more. She is definitely one of my favourite authors!! (shhhh don't tell everyone though!!) This books glues you right until the very end. I listened to it on audio and the narration was spot on, however she spoke sooooo fast. So once I slowed her voice down, I settled in to a very enjoyable book!! Top marks! Book 2.... bring it on!! This book was given to me for free at my request and I have provided this voluntary review.

Fortune Academy: Year One

Can I just say WOW! This book hit all the spots. I love RH academy books. Lily is a supernatural, except she has no clue what she is, and neither does anyone else. This is not your typical supernatural academy book. I was hooked from the first literal sentence. I love a head strong, badass FMC. I can't wait to see what happens next. Vanessa Moyen did a fantastic job narrating, as always. I highly recommend it!

Fast paced and full of action

This book was all action right from the beginning, J.R. Thorn weaves a tale of magic and intrigue and an exciting cast of characters in the cut-throat world of the acadamy Lily is thrust into. We are left with two burning questions, just who is Lily Fallen, and when is book 2 out?!

A fortune of a great listen fortune of a great boo

Book 1 in the series. Loved how J.R took a series and put everything into this story . It’s a reverse harem story that will have you glued till the end. What more do you need , Olympus Demi Gods , Monsters that worship the dark lord , dark Mages that gave up their souls for their power and some stuck up ladies that think they are it . Then there is Lily the heroine. Lilly has a problem, she can’t remember anything, her memory is wiped clean . A hunter tracks her down at a bar and tells her she needs to go to Fortune Academy meanwhile the ladies at the bar says she belongs to Monster Academy. When she gets to Fortune Academy the hunter needs to sneak her in. Lily needs to hide who she really is that’s what she’s told . What powers does Lily have , you also get a sense of her mates and you also see her bond with one mate . Love how Lily disrupted the Greek Demigods power party . Grab it and see who Lily really is Vanessa performance was spot on. Her voice and tone is great for all the characters .

Mesmerizing slow-burn RH romance! Loved it!

I’ve heard several recommendations for this series, and was surprised, even then, with how amazing this book is! Lily is such a strong character, and the fact that this is written about her struggles to find out who she is, she is a bright and bold woman. Her experiences at Fortune Academy are an enigma, and slowly lead to a hint of what she’s dealing with. The other characters are slowly introduced, and the relationships are built slowly, but there is fire in each bond as it identifies. The epilogue left me wanting more, I can’t wait to get the next book!

Loved it!

J.R. Thorn is now one of my favorite reverse harem authors, I first read her work in the Elemental Fae Academy series and after that, I was hooked. I have a couple of her books now and I plan on getting more but when I had the opportunity to listen to Fortune Academy, which was put on my tbr, I couldn't wait. Fortune Academy was everything I could have asked in a Thorn book and more, I absolutely loved it. The story follows Lilli as she joins the other supernaturals at Fortune Academy, who are all trying to discover who they truly are but not all supernaturals are equal and Lilli is gonna have to fight for her place but with cruel supernaturals everywhere you turn how is a girl supposed to fit in? Well, Lilli doesn't. She doesn't know what type of supernatural she is but she's smart and starts to figure out she is powerful. Lilli is a strong female character who doesn't let herself or her friends get bullied around, she stands up for herself, has confidence and basically doesn't care what anyone thinks, she plays things smart and I love that. The guys in her harem haven't really been revealed, they have been hinted at, out of all them I really only dislike one, maybe he will grow on me but this is a slow-build romance and not too much happens in this book but I am looking forward to Lilli's interaction to all these alpha males, what until they realize that Lilli is in charge. Fortune Academy was an excellent read, the narrator, Vanessa Moyen, was perfect for the story. This was a really interesting beginning to a series, it was a fun and quick read that I feel in love with. Thorn did not disappoint, I relished every second of this story and I can't wait for more. If you are looking for a supernatural academy reverse harem then I would highly suggest Fortune Academy, it is full of magic, bullies, mystery, romance and so much more. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am for the rest of this series.

Fun book with a great narrator

I wasn't sure when I first started listening to this book but as I continued it got better and more interesting. Hats off to the narrator because if it wasn't for her wonderful voice I'm not sure I would have continued with it. She is so easy to listen to! I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

Great Bully Romance

First, a nod to Vanessa Moyen for her wonderful narration. You can't have a good audiobook without a good narrator. 🎧 The story is interesting and has characters you want to know more about. This is a slow burn romance along with RH bully type situations. The way the story is written makes for good drama and a great listen. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
