_______________

Rediscover the worlds of Emberfall and Syhl Shallow in this irresistible return to Brigid Kemmerer’s New York Times bestselling Cursebreaker series.
_______________

Tycho of Rillisk has been a lot of things: son and brother, stablehand, prisoner, soldier and friend to the king. Now, four years after Grey took the throne of Emberfall, Tycho has taken on a new role: courier and spy. As the only person the king can trust, Tycho carries secret messages back and forth between the kingdoms of Emberfall and Syhl Shallow.

But even though the war is over, peace still seems far away. A dangerous anti-magical faction is rising, and when Tycho discovers a plot to assassinate Grey and Queen Lia Mara, ruler of Syhl Shallow, he must fight for everything he believes in.

Nothing here is as it seems, and after a devastating betrayal, it becomes clear that the danger is only just beginning …©2022 Brigid Kemmerer (P)2022 Bloomsbury Publishing PLC Difficult Situations Family & Relationships Fantastik Friendship Kurgu Literature & Fiction Romantik Science Fiction & Fantasy Kraliyet Sihir

I couldn't get this creative, suspenseful take on Beauty and the Beast out of my head
Absolutely spellbinding
Has everything you'd want in a retelling of a classic fairy tale: a finely-drawn fantasy world, a heroine rarely seen in fiction, and a tortured hero with a secret
A kinetic tale of the tension between duty, love and trust

This is a slow book and I was in the mood for it but the romance with Tycho was just zzz. I’m disabled so usually like a disabled character but honestly Jacks could have not been in the book. There is a lot about Tycho thinking about himself which could have been shortened too.
Wanted to strangle Grey…Wish Ren got to be King of his Kingdom…
But the writing is so good and loved how Cal’s story went as I did not expect it.

3.5 but loved returning to the world

Yaaaay! I loved the first book and then didn’t love the second two, but this one redeemed the plot for me personally! Jax and Tycho are so cute and the tension was incredible.

I’m hoping that some of the less liked people in this book get a happy ending in the next, , and tbh I hope we see more of Calyn and Alec, harper and rhen :) loved this!

As good as the first!

well its nice to revisit this world even if parts of the story fell a little flat. I am interested in where this story goes next.

When I started the book I did not know it is a spin-off to the Cursebreakers series. So now I will go and read it 😀.

I liked this story very much and the audiobook enhanced the experience. Chase Brown is the reason why I found Brigid Kemmerer’s books (he narates Tycho in this book).

The book has forbidden magic, secret romances and betrayals.
The story is told through 3 POVs: Tycho (King’s Courier), Jax (a blacksmith) and Callyn (a baker).
I did not expect to have two sets of love interests, but I have to say Tycho and Jax are my favorite characters.

The pace is slower at the beginning but it picks up and becomes addictive.

Please check the content warnings before reading as there are some things that can be triggering.

Loved it!
