Another Bond classic by Horowitz!

I won't go into too much detail as I often do with my reviews. James Bond is a classic character and Horowitz is a very talented writer. Very few writers could do what Horowitz achieves in this novel. He manages to keep the story perfectly in tone with the time period without updating anything and completely immersing you in the narrative.
On top,of that in my humble opinion Bond is perfectly in character for the James Bond of the early Fleming books. This book unlike many others suceeds at maintaining or matching the flair and style of the original Fleming novels. Give this book a read or listen you won't regret it at all. Matthew Goode is an excellent narrator and I hope him and Horowitz will grace Audible again soon.

Excellent & Gripping - just too short!!

The story is great and it's very well narrated. While I realise James Bond books are typically short, I found myself wanting more.

Worthy addition to the Bond Canon

Taut storyline, good characterisation, sublime performance by the narrator. A perfect way to spend time lazing in the sun whilst on holiday.

A slick back to basics Bond tale

I'm a Roger Moore fan. But this story is Connery through-and-through. The Bond here is so slick and we'll written, you can't help but think of anyone else but Connery. Bond's mannerisms and the way he deals with situations under pressure is on par with Fleming's Bond. The story itself is simple, not particularly action packed but so well written and definitely Bond it doesn't matter. All the characters are well crafted and the main Villan here is deservedly intense. The ending is satisfying, has an epic small scale Bond type feel to it and wraps up nicely serving as an excellent Bond origin story.

Great story beautifully delivered

I’ve listened twice and enjoyed it even more the second time. Through all the twists and turns I never lost interest. Anthony Horowitz is a genius.

Forever and a Day that won't live forever in my memory

A fairly short and predictable story. Descriptions are good and the reader is excellent. It was fairly easy to put two and two together and make four with a most of the characters in the story. He needs to make the characters believable.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

Horowitz gets it pretty close to Fleming’s style and the result is a very entertaining James Bond story that doesn’t feel in any way at odds with the original books. If you are a fan of those books, I’m sure you’ll like this.

A faithful prequel

A well written homage to Ian Fleming's Bond, which holds on to the old fashion attitudes. As a result some of the characters and scenes jar a little in a book written in modern times
