Kian, a cossetted suburban cat, is snatched from his comforts and dumped in the bush along with two kittens, Cally and Jem. The greatest threat to their survival are other cats, ferals who fiercely guard their territories. Kian survives some unnerving and vicious encounters but is unswerving in his desire to make the long journey home to his territory even though it is apparent his owner is dead and that there will be no welcome from the cruel man who has taken over the house. Hartnett's creation of the cat's point of view and her sensuous depiction of the forest is exceptional in its imagination, beauty and truth.&$169;2003 Sonya Hartnett; (P)2003 Bolinda Publishing Pty. Editör yorumları

The mesmerizing and gently powerful voice of veteran performer Caroline Lee effortlessly brings the tension in this audiobook to a startling climax. Forest: A Journey from the Wild is the heartbreaking and dramatic story of what happens when a couple of pampered housecats are forced out of their cozy confines and have to deal with the natural world and all its less-than-genial inhabitants. From the mind of award-winning Australian writer Sonya Hartnett comes a world few have seen peopled with characters you’ll have to hear to believe.

Sonya Hartnett is a talented descriptive writer.I listened to this as a 38 year old cat lover as I often find books aimed at teens to be more 'grown up' than a lot of the so called 'chick lit' out there. The opening scene of the 3 cats being dumped in the forest and being scared and alone is gripping. As our adult cat and 2 kittens travel into the depths of the forest they come across other ferrel cats and foe and their journey becomes as much a tale of survival as a relentless questioning of how they came to be in this predicament. The narrators voice is a bit grating but if you can get past that your in for an enjoyable listen.I would not reccommend younger listeners listen to this, as parts of the story are upsetting, so possibly not a good one to put on for a long family journey in the car.
