Summary

When a Lamborghini Diablo car pulls into the quick oil change shop on Cleveland's west side, Tom Russell immediately assumes this is his old lover, Wells, has come back to torment him. But it's worse.

The driver is Wells' arrogant, obscenely rich cousin Law Castille. He invites Tom on a little subtle revenge tip, accompanying Law as his guest to Wells' wedding. But dance with the devil and there's hell to pay. Tom thinks Law is toying with him, but Law's visit to the poor side of a rustbelt town was never about revenge. It was never about cousin Wells at all. Law has come for Tom.

Fantastic

One of my favourite books, with the power play between the characters.
And topped with Joel Leslie's star performance.
Strongly recommended!

Would have preferred another narrator....

The story has always been one of my faves, and I consider it a romance. Law is such an Alpha male, overwhelmingly masculine, knows what he wants and goes for it no matter who or what is in the way. Law fell head over heels with Tom (Tomcat) the moment he saw him. There were several problems with that though, and I'll leave those for you to discover.

As far as this audio is concerned, 3 stars but 5 stars for the story. I have to say I'm not a big fan of Joel Leslie's voice, and yes, I know he's English trying to 'Americanise' his accent, and for the most part it works [oh, except where they were talking about British royalty, and then Duke came out instead of 'Dook' as it's pronounced in the US], but my biggest problem here was with the way he narrated Law's voice. Either a raspy barely there low tone (which I wouldn't associate with Law at all. He's the head of a multinational company for heaven's sake, he's confident, sassy and full of himself), or the narrator forgets, and we get the same voice he uses for Tom.:(

Disappointing (Review contains minor spoilers)

This book had a great premise and a narrator I enjoyed. Unfortunately, much like films where all the best parts are in the trailer, this book failed to deliver.

This book had elements I enjoyed, but overall, what little plot there was felt rushed, unrealistic and as if the author had never met a male before, let alone a gay one. The first sex scene was arguably rape and unpleasant to listen to. There was very little believable chemistry between the main characters and the background characters little more than props. It was hard to care about any of them.

The one character I did somewhat like was Law. There was just enough hints about his character to give clues that all was not as it seems. Tom, however, was immature, clueless and apparently shallow. His opinion of a virtual stranger changing from "Devil incarnate" to "I love him" practically overnight.

The narration was good. Not the best I've heard from Joel Leslie, but considering what he had to work with, I think he did an admirable job trying to make this interesting. I read reviews on the book that spoke positively of the ending and I stuck it out to see how it all turned out. It has all the hallmarks of a fairy tale: H.E.A, unbelievable and predictable. Still, I have read worse books, and I don't regret listening to this one... but I am unlikely to ever listen to it twice.

Awful

I really need my credit back for this one. Fell asleep after listening to an awful beginning and woke up 30 minutes before the end realising it hadn’t got any better.
