Can visiting a grave connect us with the dead? What happens when a man thinks he can hear his dead brother? Billy Jarvis suffers an untimely death, leaving his little brother, Donnie, alone with his mother. Donnie thinks his dead brother has told him how to make things right and Detective Strong is pushed to figure out why people are disappearing. In the third book of the series, Jason is without his regular partner, Vanessa Layne, and must rely on a new partner to help him solve the mystery.

Unfortunately, a reasonable story was spoiled by a poor narrator who made our hero sound like Roz from monsters Inc. I just couldn’t get past that so couldn’t really concentrate 🤷‍♀️

Monsters Inc

I have listened to and enjoyed a lot of this author’s books, with various narrators, but this one I couldn’t finish due to the narration style. The emphasis of almost every line as if it’s high drama, coupled with the voice used for the female character left me feeling like I was listening to a pantomime and I couldn’t take the characters seriously.

Distracting narration

Really didn't enjoy the narration, it was breathless and hard to listen to. Listened to quite a few other titles of the series and this is the worst narration, and totally the wrong voice for Strong.

Narration ruined it for me, couldn't listen to it all.

I enjoyed the previous two books (which were free with plus), so I used a credit on this one.

The narration is poor, especially the voice of Jason, who sounds nothing like the previous books.

Story was so-so.

The next couple of books are currently free, so I will press on, hoping the narrators for those are better.

Poor narration

I’ve read dozens of books by this author. They are an easy read with good stories. Unfortunately, this one was spoilt for me by the narration. Too much emphasis on words at inappropriate places and I found his reading style to be very breathy. I’m glad I waited until it became available for free on audible plus.

Dreadful narrator
