Summary

Mike Baron delivers a riotous, heartfelt, and ultimately uplifting story in Florida Man, brought to life by the inimitable R.C. Bray.

Gary Duba’s having a bad day. There’s a snake in his toilet, a rabid raccoon in the yard, and his girl Krystal’s in jail for getting naked at a Waffle House and licking the manager.

Gary’s a redneck living in a trailer by the swamp. But he’s got dreams, big dreams. Every time he tries to get ahead, fate deals him a low blow. But then he gets lucky...

With his best friend, Floyd, Gary sets out to sell his prized Barry Bonds rookie card to raise the $500 needed for bail. But things always find a way of getting out of hand.

I could listen to this for hours

Big cry of nooo when if ended. It feels like the story was effortlessly written, weaving out of one scenario and the next. Bloody hilarious. I don’t normally buy books like this, but when the mighty R C Bray, said how good it is, you have to get it. Highly recommended, so much more to the book than the summary. Don’t drink or drive while listening, after a spitting coffee over a white table cloth, it’s not a good idea. Looking forward to (hopefully) a follow up. Brilliantly written, and as ever, brilliantly narrated. Well worth two credits.

No meat to the story

Story just goes from one setup to another no real plot. Sadly had high hopes for this but its just a let down.

Was really enjoying it

But it just goes nowhere, just jumps from one event to the next. It has its funny moments but it's more like a collectiong of short stories than anything else.

Just buy it you won’t be sorry!

Total wildcard for me and being a huge fan of RC Bray I thought I’d try this without even knowing what this was about but the album art looked great and I thought what the hell! Great characters, great storyline and had me laughing out loud. Bring on book two!

Just get this book! (And sequel too)

Whats not to like about it if you like comedy and reading about Florida man exploits. It is perhaps less bonkers that the real life Florida man news - but that is only because lordmaster RC Bray narrates it making all the crazy stuff that happens in the book perfectly normal - after all, there is perfectly good explanation to everything that happens to "this" Florida Man!

Brilliant

The author has done something special and together with the Narrator, produced a fantastic funny entertaining story. Can I just add, I hope the author gets to read the reviews because these characters should be written into a hillarious Zombie apocalypse stuck together, trying to survive and escape the horror. The characters are hillarious this can not be the end of them!!!!

just ridiculous enough. easy listen.

you grow to love the main character and as much as it's all a bit silly, it's nice going along for the ride with him. I struggle to get into audiobooks and seek out RC Bray narration as he's so good and makes getting into one easier. this was a brilliant example of his skill and refreshing to hear something away from sci fi too. I went searching for a sequel which must be a good sign!

Was this intended to be funny?

I love funny books. Hard Luck Hank is one of my absolute favorites. And Bray is one of my favorite narrators so how could I lose? At about 3 hours in I realized Bray had my full attention but that I hadn't laughed once. Any time now, right? Still at the half way point I hadn't laughed or even chuckled. Isn't that sort of a sign the book just isn't funny? It isn't even that the humor is adolescent, I'm not too good for some childish humor. There just wasn't any.

I love RC Bray but this book needs editing

Maybe it’s petty of me to be annoyed at inconsistencies but this book is rife with them. Near the end the main character asks how something tastes when he’s already eaten it twice. Even in one chapter the length something being measured changes the third time it is mentioned. There’s a bunch of others as well. In all it’s pretty fun and Bray as always makes it more so, but it fails in continuity and believable in repercussions of actions.

Pointless, even RC Bray phoned this one in

Florida man is a famous meme for making bad choices. This is ripe territory for a fun book, but its not. Its frustrating, needlessly vulgar, and way, way over detailed. I had hopes that the combination of title, topic, and RC Bray would leave me rolling on the floor in laughter. Sadly, this book is so pointless and boring, even RC Bray sounds monotone and coffee deprived. I got through chapter 10 or 12 or so, and then simply deleted it. It was awful. Sorry RC Bray, I love your work, but even you couldn’t bring this one to life.

Even Bray couldn't save this one.

I bought this due to Bray's livestream. Bray's spectacular narration makes most stories come to life. Unfortunately this time it wasn't enough. A dull story that made me feel dirty and sad. Perhaps it's because of the realities of 2020, but this is the first audible title I would never recommend to anyone.

Florida Man

Florida Man hilarious should come with a warning to not to listen to it while Walking, Driving, Chewing Gum or operating machinery. I love listening to R.C. Bray's performances.

Outstanding!

Loved everything about this book, except that it ended. Super fun, had me laughing out loud, not one dull part, and moved along at a great pace. One misadventure after another, honestly couldn’t guess what was going to happen next. R.C. Bray killed it as usual. Wish he could narrate all audiobooks, should be a law. If I ever run for public office I’ll see what I can do about that. This is the first book I’ve listened to by Mike Baron but definitely won’t be the last. Love this book so much I wrote him on FB. If you don’t enjoy laughing and your sense of humor is lacking, you’ll still enjoy this book. Going to organize a mob protest outside of Mr. Baron’s home to encourage him to hurry and finish the second installment of this series.
