Story
An electromagnetic pulse blinds the U.S. Cars crash. Planes fall. Chaos reigns. Power is restored within minutes, but it’s already too late. Russian nukes are falling. U.S. allies around the world are already wiped out. The United States will cease to exist inside of five minutes. After giving the order to launch a full-scale retaliation–dooming the planet–the president, his staff, Secret Service and those lucky enough to be visiting the White House, are whisked below ground, where they board several Earth Escape Pods. Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

It’s been a rough time for Gus Berry. He barely survived the city of Annapolis as its population underwent a violent transformation, leaving everyone he knew or loved either dead or undead. Things aren’t much better now, though. In fact, things might have become much worse. Living off the land, foraging for food, water, even medicine, and being able to adapt to a changing environment…it all takes a special individual, with an exceptional skill set and determination to survive. Story
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

Summary
Mike Baron delivers a riotous, heartfelt, and ultimately uplifting story in Florida Man, brought to life by the inimitable R.C. Bray.
Gary Duba’s having a bad day. There’s a snake in his toilet, a rabid raccoon in the yard, and his girl Krystal’s in jail for getting naked at a Waffle House and licking the manager.
Gary’s a redneck living in a trailer by the swamp. But he’s got dreams, big dreams. Every time he tries to get ahead, fate deals him a low blow. But then he gets lucky...
With his best friend, Floyd, Gary sets out to sell his prized Barry Bonds rookie card to raise the $500 needed for bail. But things always find a way of getting out of hand.

I could listen to this for hours
Big cry of nooo when if ended. It feels like the story was effortlessly written, weaving out of one scenario and the next. Bloody hilarious.
I don’t normally buy books like this, but when the mighty R C Bray, said how good it is, you have to get it.
Highly recommended, so much more to the book than the summary. Don’t drink or drive while listening, after a spitting coffee over a white table cloth, it’s not a good idea. Looking forward to (hopefully) a follow up.
Brilliantly written, and as ever, brilliantly narrated. Well worth two credits.

This book is a gem. I love it.
I cannot remember last time I listened to something not SciFi or Fantasy.
I love the humor and the delivery.
The characters are lovable and relatable, full of flows but still innocent at heart.

Started off a cringing series of disasters leaving me feeling that the character is a total loser but as the story progresses and goes from one silly scenario to another, I realised that the main character was at heart a nice guy without a clue. Even his user wife grew on me.

Badly edited. How many times do you need to describe the mans sore head?
What relevance does the process of changing a tyre have on the story?

Call Me Impressed
That was good. Really good and really funny. Gary scores one minute, then fails big time the next. Whatever trouble he gets into Gary has a good heart. He will help anyone, even if they’ve physically attacked him first. Such good writing style it seems like a true story, but all that bad luck then good luck can’t happen to one person in so little time. Or can it? I guess so! What a wild ride. And oh man the narrator is so good. All I heard was unique characters brought to life by RC Bray’s amazing narration skills. Superb.

Was this intended to be funny?
I love funny books. Hard Luck Hank is one of my absolute favorites. And Bray is one of my favorite narrators so how could I lose? At about 3 hours in I realized Bray had my full attention but that I hadn't laughed once. Any time now, right? Still at the half way point I hadn't laughed or even chuckled. Isn't that sort of a sign the book just isn't funny? It isn't even that the humor is adolescent, I'm not too good for some childish humor. There just wasn't any.

Even Bray couldn't save this one.
I bought this due to Bray's livestream. Bray's spectacular narration makes most stories come to life. Unfortunately this time it wasn't enough. A dull story that made me feel dirty and sad. Perhaps it's because of the realities of 2020, but this is the first audible title I would never recommend to anyone.

Pointless, even RC Bray phoned this one in
Florida man is a famous meme for making bad choices. This is ripe territory for a fun book, but its not. Its frustrating, needlessly vulgar, and way, way over detailed.
I had hopes that the combination of title, topic, and RC Bray would leave me rolling on the floor in laughter. Sadly, this book is so pointless and boring, even RC Bray sounds monotone and coffee deprived. I got through chapter 10 or 12 or so, and then simply deleted it. It was awful. Sorry RC Bray, I love your work, but even you couldn’t bring this one to life.

I love RC Bray but this book needs editing
Maybe it’s petty of me to be annoyed at inconsistencies but this book is rife with them. Near the end the main character asks how something tastes when he’s already eaten it twice. Even in one chapter the length something being measured changes the third time it is mentioned. There’s a bunch of others as well. In all it’s pretty fun and Bray as always makes it more so, but it fails in continuity and believable in repercussions of actions.
