Two monstrous evils. The quiet suburban town of Hampstead is threatened by two horrors. One is natural. The hideous, unstoppable creation of man's power gone mad. The other is not natural at all. And it makes the first look like child's play.©1983 Peter Straub (P)2009 Audio Holdings, LLC Fantasy Horror Mystery Supernatural Suspense Technothrillers Thriller & Suspense

This is one of my favourite Peter Straub books and I cannot praise the physical book high enough, however, this abridged audio version is just terrible. I will admit that I dont really like abridged titles but I will listen to them if thats all that is available as in this case. The actual book is long and complex, the audiobook is ridiculously short and I reckon that around 80% of the story has been cut for the abridgement leaving just a series of scenes with no real connecting story. This book deserves a fully unabridged version as many of Peter Straubs other titles now have although for some reason they are not available in the UK on Audible, just the USA, you can order them on CD though. I will be requesting a refund for this item,

Great book - awful audiobook
