Summary

An unpredictable killer is loose on the streets of Glasgow, experimenting with death. Beginning with brute force, the murderer moves on to poison and drowning, greedy for new and better ways to kill. Faced with a string of unconnected victims, DCI Lorimer turns to psychologist and friend Solomon Brightman for his insights.

Lorimer is also assigned to review the case of a fatal house fire. His suspicions are raised by shocking omissions in the original investigation. Some uncomfortable questions have been buried, but Lorimer is the man to ask them. As the serial killer gets closer to Lorimer's family, can the DCI unmask the volatile murderer before the next victim is found too close to home?

Fair story but Poor editing

Fairly decent story marred by some poor editing. There were a few paragraphs particularly in chapters 6 & 7 that were repeated, for example one paragraph relating to a fire & the possibility it was due to a chip pan. You found that the story would plod along getting then the narrator woukd repeat the last paragraph again which was very off putting. Also the narration would suddenly stop then start again with the last word or words repeated again. Other than these little niggles it was a an engrossing story if a little far fetched in places.

suspense to the end

What made the experience of listening to Five Ways to Kill a Man the most enjoyable?

Well read, and a thrilling storyline

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite character Alice Finlay. The description of her in hospital after her stroke is brilliant, and her strength right until the end.

Have you listened to any of Joe Dunlop’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Bad recording but good story

Terrible recording as there were so many repeated sections. Very unusual to have so many in one recording.

Lacklustre

Whole story seemed to grind to a standstill half an hour before the end. Lacking in any sort of sparkle in those closing stages.

Interesting and entertaining with some editing issues

The story itself took a little time to grab me, but then moved at a good pace and was entertaining. Narration was good but the recording is poorly edited; there are some passages that repeat, which is a little irritating.

Engaging story and kept me wanting to listen. Great narration. I'll be looking out for more listens by both the author and narrator

Long winded poorly written dull story

Narrator was wasted on such a poor story. Too much of the story felt like padding rather than intrinsic to the plot. Hardly riveting but would be an excellent accompaniment to watching paint dry.
