Story
Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine-despite the scans that showed significant brain damage. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can't control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it? Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a coma with similar abilities. At first she's reassured to find someone who understands the strangeness of her new existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature-or something much more frightening? For fans of best-sellers like Before I Fall and If I Stay, this is a fascinating and heart-rending story about love and friendship and the fine line between life and death.

Summary
Soon to be a major motion picture in March 2019!
In this moving story that’s perfect for fans of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, two teens fall in love with just one minor complication - they can’t get within five feet of each other without risking their lives.
Can you love someone you can never touch?
Stella Grant likes to be in control - even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions.
The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn’t care less about his treatments or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon he’ll turn 18, and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals.
Will’s exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. It feels like punishment.
What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?

“Cystic Fibrosis will steal no more from me. From now on, I am the thief”
I listened to this on audio as the book is not released in the U.K. until January 2019! I couldn’t wait that long.
Five Feet Apart is one of those stories that will tear you apart. Think of “My Sister’s Keeper” and “The Fault In Our Stars” Be prepared, your in for one heck of an emotional journey.
This story involves three main characters all fighting the same disease. Stella, a girl who fights everyday with her strict schedule to stay alive, even if that means she doesn’t really get to live any type of live as everything is a threat to her. Will, who is facing a lot of challenges, but has just had enough, he wants to be free of what thIs disease is doing to him. Poe, alone, his parents live in a different city and he pushes everyone away who possibly could mean something to him.
I loved the bond that these three had, it was so special and heart warming. It was so hard to read however, as with this disease you can’t be near each other, you can’t touch/comfort each other. So, even though you are there for each other in a sense, your not there completely for one another as it’s physically impossible.
This book was filled with such beautiful quotes/words. I will quote just one of my favourites....
“Cystic Fibrosis will steal no more from me. From now on, I am the thief”
Having Cystic Fibrosis myself, this story gave me the fear. I fear everyday of dying, wondering how long I have left in this world, will my lungs last without needing a transplant? What other health issues will I face that comes with CF?
My lung function is no where near where it would mean needing a transplant BUT it has slowly begun going down over the years. I now sit between %69 which is my lowest lung function I have ever had so far, to %77 my last lung function taken in October 2018.
I have never met anyone with CF face to face as the risks are just too great. Plus the hospital is always very strict about meeting fellow patients. BUT, I have a few special people in my life with this disease that I keep in contact with thanks to social media. These guys mean a lot to me, I don’t feel so alone anymore.
This is a hard disease, everyday is different and you are met with MANY challenges but I say BRING IT ON!!!!! I will keep on fighting until I can’t anymore.
Stella, Will and Poe may not be real people BUT their stories are real. So many are dealing with this situation everyday. We must all fight until there is a CURE!
I don’t want to say much else on the book as it will just ruin the story but these three characters are all on an incredible journey. All which are heart-breaking!
A must read!!!
I can’t wait for the movie!!!
