Summary

PI Jackson Rivers grew up on the mean streets of Del Paso Heights and he doesn't trust cops, even though he was one. When the man he thinks of as his brother is accused of killing a police officer in an obviously doctored crime, Jackson will move heaven and earth to keep Kaden and his family safe.

Defense attorney Ellery Cramer grew up with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth, but that hasn't stopped him from crushing on street-smart, swaggering Jackson Rivers for the past six years. But when Jackson asks for his help defending Kaden Cameron, Ellery is out of his depth and not just with guarded, prickly Jackson. Kaden wasn't just framed, he was framed by crooked cops, and the conspiracy goes higher than Ellery dares reach and deep into Jackson s troubled past.

Both men are soon enmeshed in the mystery of who killed the cop in the minimart, and engaged in a race against time to clear Kaden's name. But when the mystery is solved and the bullets stop flying, they'll have to deal with their personal complications and an attraction that's spiraled out of control.

Trilogy of Fish out of Water

Loved all three books....jeez they're all so damaged in all the ways you can think of.
Snarky, smart characters that you can't help but root for! Ellery's Mum should be knighted, she was the finishing touch to the story!
Sublime narrating Mr Tremblay, you are the master of all Audible stories!

Loved it.

This story is full of suspense and twists and turns and scorching hot to boot. The characters are beautifully flawed and contrasted which makes them feel very real. I loved this book and am going straight on to the next one. The narrator really brought the characters to life he didn’t just read the book it was definitely a performance and a really brilliant one at that. Each voice was individual and suited the character.

Enjoyable Story

The story and characters  are engaging and the narrator has very distinctive voices for each character, always a plus for me.

The great Mr T strikes again....superb narration.

I'll be honest here and say I haven't read an Amy Lane story since 2016, when she seemed to be having trouble being nice to any person of colour, and Riptide actually came out and said she'd gone too far and would be asked to re-write certain sections of one of her stories. I am NOT a person of colour but I was disgusted with her condescending attitude and vowed I wouldn't read any more of her work which was a huge shame as I count some of her stories amongst my all-time faves. Of course Riptide themselves have since been shown to be bigoted in their approach to authors and employees of colour and race, and even it has to be said, certain classes of queer folk and once my pre-orders with them are published, I'm done with them for good!!

The ONLY reasons I listened to this story were 1) the wonderful Mr T and 2) it's a whodunit/thriller and I wondered whether Ms Lane would cope. Imagine then my astonishment when I discovered that she had actually included some people of colour in her story AND she wasn't being mean to them or treating them as second class citizens. I don't think gobsmacked is too strong a word to use BUT I can only assume that the criticism she received a couple of years ago affected her sales and she's had to re-think her attitude. About time too!!

Dead Fish

The blurb sounded good, book 1 of a 3 book series with a good narrator, I was looking forward to being immersed in a good cop drama/action thriller. After an hour I stopped due to swearing in almost every sentence, the jolting narrative and the dated feel to the story, only written in 2016. It lacked sophistication, and competent characterization, leaving wishy washy MCs in wishy washy action. So disappointing.
