Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of First, We Make the Beast Beautiful, written and read by Sarah Wilson.

The New York Times best seller.

If you have anxiety, this book is for you. If you love someone who is anxious, this book is for you.

I Quit Sugar founder and New York Times best-selling author Sarah Wilson has lived through high anxiety - including bipolar, OCD and several suicide attempts - her whole life. Perhaps like you, she grew tired of seeing anxiety as a disease that must be medicated into submission. Could anxiety be resewn, she asked, into a thing of beauty?

So began a seven-year journey to find a more meaningful and helpful take on anxiety. Living out of two suitcases, Sarah travelled the world, meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, with Oprah’s life coach, with major mental health organisations and with hundreds of others in a quest to unravel the knotted ball of wool that is the anxious condition. She emerged with the very best philosophy, science and hacks for thriving with the beast.

First, We Make the Beast Beautiful is a small book with a big heart, paving the way for richer, kinder and wiser conversations about anxiety.

Utterly disappointing

Expected a lot more. But could barely finish it. It felt that it was written for upper-middle class white women. That's not inherently bad tbh (if that's your target audience then so be it). But again disappointing....

Great insight for fellow anxious beasts

Loved it. So helpful. I've always seen my anxiety as my life's burden. Sarah has helped me see that it has its gifts. I'll definitely come back to listen again and learn to trust my inner compass more. Thanks Sarah x

Thoroughly Enjoyed ☆

Author writes about her experiences throughout her life and dealing with different levels of anxiety.

I'm not too good with words but I'm pleased to have been suggested to read this book and feel a lot less alone after reading.
