Summary

Casey Cleburne is the descendant of the great Confederate General, Patrick Cleburne. Beautiful and intelligent, she's a single mom with two boys working as the personal assistant for the newly-elected President of the United States.

Enter Secret Service agent Phillip Henry “Colt” Sheridan IV, the descendant of the renowned Union General, Phil Sheridan – enormous, handsome and brilliant, Colt has earned himself the nickname of “The Anti-Christ” in the ranks of the secret service for his intimidating persona and no-nonsense tactics. Colt is newly assigned as President Talbot's Special Agent in Charge and when the descendants of two great Civil War generals meet face to face for the first time in the halls of the West Wing, sparks fly as the woman the president fondly calls “The General” clashes with the man known as The Anti-Christ.

But the sparks swiftly turn into genuine interest, and Casey and Colt soon find themselves enveloped in a powerful romance. Danger and intrigue lie below the surface, however – although Colt is indeed a Secret Service agent, he is also a double agent for a rogue government branch called The Core. The Core is privy to information that the new president has conducted illegal activities in the past and Colt has been carefully positioned in the president's entourage to uncover enough evidence to impeach the man. Colt's directive is to use anyone he can to accomplish this task and he has been specifically ordered to get close to Casey. Although Colt tries to keep his feelings a bay, he quickly falls in love with the beautiful woman, muddling his drive to complete his mission as he realizes he can't hurt her and he can't use her.

WOW!

I am sure Kathryn reached into my chest and tore my heart out. It is a good thing she put it back in or I would have bitched slapped her. Never will you find another heart touching story.

Not

I kept on waiting for the story to get better and for the characters to act like they had been built up to be. but from the beginning this was not believable. First, the fact that Colt and Casey fell in love so quickly and had such a strong love throughout the book did not make sense. how could you possibly build a bond like that in a matter of two days. Secondly, that Casey would fall apart and not want to live after Colt left on his assignment was completely unrealistic. She had two sons that she adored and I couldn't believe that she would be willing to leave them. The fact that after Colt died she went off and married Scott also did not ring true. If she was so in love with Colt she would never have married somebody else. when she saw Jack after she had died she said he wasn't ready for her to go. What? he was over 45 years old. Do not bother with this ridiculous story.

A HeartBreaking Love Story

Rarely does a story bring tears to my eyes, but this very well written love story did. The reader did a good job, and the emotion put forth as the story unfolds holds your attention. Have a box of tissues available.

Unbelievable

The main female character was supposed to be a competent executive assistant but every time she turned around she was crying hysterically which I found unbelievable

Fires of Autumn

Oh very good story!! However ripped my heart out. Even though I had an idea what would happen and that made me anxious, it wasn’t what I expected. Enjoyed the narrators voice.
