Summary

Senior purser Mia Donoghue is always on the go, leaving her little time for herself. She doesn’t mind being busy; it provides distraction from painful memories and her daily struggle to stay sober.

Captain Ava Alfarsi has just been promoted, carrying more responsibility than she’s ever had before. As a single, young, and attractive captain, Ava has no problem meeting women, but her control issues and fear of people finding out she’s far from perfect stand in the way of connecting with others on a deeper level.

When the two become aware of each other’s deepest secrets, they find comfort in the knowledge they’re not alone. The attraction is undeniable as they embark on a healing journey together.

Can Ava learn to let go, and can Mia somehow make peace with her past?

Both searching for strength to fight their demons, they never expected to find strength in each other. But is passion enough to keep the fire burning?

Another great story (with wonderful characters)

I love Lise Gold’s characters. They’re good and selfless women who do their best to make life beautiful and easier for the people they love. They’re strong (much stronger than they think) and flawed, sweet and determined.

Mia Donoghue loves her job as a senior purser. Travelling, discovering new places or enjoying favourite ones helps her cope with the guilt she’s been carrying for fifteen years, guilt that has kept her away from her family. On one of her flights, she meets Ava Alfarsi, who has recently been promoted to captain. Mia and Ava soon find out that they share more than an immediate and undeniable attraction.

When they first meet, Ava seems to be at her better place in her life, yet she has huge control issues. They both make the other stronger, even though Mia is not ready to admit it at first.

One of the things I’ve discovered these past months, with Lise Gold’s books in particular, is how much I love simple stories that tackle sensitive issues without any violence. Don’t get me wrong, I love complicated stories, I love getting lost in labyrinthine tales. But I also love straightforward simplicity. Day to day life, when cleverly told, can be fascinating.
Lise Gold has a gift for creating lovely characters, Mia and Ava are no exceptions. Another Gold trademark is the travelling, and this book takes the readers to Dubai, New York, Kuala Lumpur… Every time I read a book by Lise Gold, I want to buy a plane ticket. Every single time.

Despite the delicate topic (addiction and the every day struggle that is sobriety), Fireflies is a pretty joyful novel, with plenty of banter and steamy scenes. And loads and loads of feelings. Once again, it’s everything I love. And the narration, by Stevie Zimmerman, is excellent.

Romance abroud

This was my first book from this author and I had no expectations before reading it. I was pleasantly surprised by the romantic atmosphere and twist in the storyline. I really enjoy romance novels and highly recommend this one. It’s a sweet story with some naughty flirtatious passages. Apart from that, it’s a story with realistic characters, they both have their own issues and try to cope with life and the realisation of being in love. If you are looking for a “butterfly” feeling ... start listening to this novel am I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Love "up in the air" romances!

I'd say this was a good read. It was interesting and different than the stories I've read lately. That's was a bit of serious subject matter mixed in with the romance and I'd say it was a good mix. I enjoyed threw characters and their stories and struggles. This is my second Lise Gold book and I defintely look forward to more.
Audiobook was great. The narrator did an excellent job.

I enjoyed listening to this book. The plot touched on difficult topics in life but was graceful, informative, and engaging. It felt realistic and i could relate having dealt with this in my family life. The narration was also very good and brought the story to life. I liked the chemistry between the characters as well as the dynamics of the families. Overall, great book! I will continue to read/listen to this author as i haven't been disappointed yet.

I loved this

I don't always leave reviews. but I couldn't stop myself with this one. I myself am a recovering alcoholic. I have been sober now for 18 years. I've been so blessed to have found the love of my life. and have an awesome 21 year old son. my addiction lead to kissing him for almost 5 years. my wife never saw me in my addiction. but she knows all the stories and everything that I did during those times. She loves me anyways and has been nothing but my greatest support during my hardest times instill have to this day. to hear this story of two woman who were fighting the same battle at the same time and came out at the end stronger for it together is a rear story in a lot of circles. and it meant a a lot to hear the support they gave each other and how their families came around at the end. one side of my family never came around. my mom's side did and we're everything to me. my in-laws are amazingly wonderful and when my mom passed my mother inlaw became the mother figure I so miss. so great, wonderful job on this story and I love the voice of the narrator. thank you so much for writing this story and giving it to us!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great read

Bravo to Lise Gold for this novel. I appreciate the honest way that the personal challenge shared by the two main characters was shared and addressed throughout this entire novel. Along with a this being a good romance it is also a wonderful example of the varying relationships women who love women navigate, nurture and develop and how they evolve as we age. I enjoyed the travel aspect and diversity of the characters in this novel. Once again I am so glad that I was introduced to the writings of Lise Gold.

Captain, my, my, my!

I can’t say everything I want to say, because I’ld be writing another book. The addiction was so on point that I couldn’t stop listening. I sat with a cupa tea and tablet, watching the rain fall. I sat so long I gotta cramp in my legs. L. G. You Rocked the Block, but I’m off to my next adventure.

Good listening

This was not as good as the other books of Lise Gold, but it raised some important issues and they were dealt with well.
Narration was excellent
