Summary
They told David it was impossible - that even the Reckoners had never killed a High Epic. Yet, Steelheart - invincible, immortal, unconquerable - is dead. And he died by David's hand.
Eliminating Steelheart was supposed to make life more simple. Instead, it only made David realise he has questions. Big ones. And there's no one in Newcago who can give him the answers he needs.
Babylon Restored, the old borough of Manhattan, has possibilities, though. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David's willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David's heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived.
Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic - Firefight. And he's willing to go on a quest darker and more dangerous even than the fight against Steelheart to find her and to get his answers.

Great next instalment
I probably shouldn't be giving these books 5 stars, they aren't deep and meaningful or anything like that, but they are just such fun and great entertainment that I can't help myself (and besides, it's another Sanderson!).
Seamlessly rolling on from Steelheart and Mitosis. David's character is developing nicely (tho' his metaphors are still as chaotic as ever, fortunately). This book is set in a different city, with a new reckoners team, so lots of new ideas and Epic adventures, and no sense at all that its the same stuff just being reworked.
In order to avoid any spoilers, I'll just say that although I guessed at where it was all headed, and what the outcome would be, it didn't take the route I thought it would - a few little twists and turns, as is Sanderson's way.
Definitely a young adults series rather than an intense or adult series, but still comfortably enjoyable. (Despite the deaths and violence, I have allowed my 9 year old to read this series - she's hooked!!! She now rates Sanderson amongst her favourite authors too. As she is an advanced reader - reading age 15 despite being only 9 - it's always a challenge to find her books that she finds exciting and challenging, but which don't have too many overtly adult themes. Fortunately this series is good, clean, well-written action and entertainment - a real winner for her. Now the challenge will be for me to get to next book in the series before she does!)
If you enjoyed Steelheart then you won't be disappointed in this one (note: although I'm glad I've read Mitosis, it's not a need-to-read prior to this one). Looking forward to book three- it promises to be a big finale!

better
I didn't like these at first but Steel Slayer is infectious. He creeps in and you just want to know more.

Just Incredible
Any additional comments?
This is Brandon Sanderson. He's always at his best. I'd say that this is superior then Steelheart. The story advances along and we find more about about Prof, Megan, David, while also learning more about Epics and Calamity. There is also a whole new city to explore being set in New York. The narrator is excellent, one of my favorites. Just buy it.

Felt more like a romantic intermission.
Well written as always for B Sanderson but too much of a romantic angst story and improbabilities with people ignoring cataclysmic events as they are more interested in a romantic engagement.
Disappointing story not brilliantly read by the narrator.

A chore to get through
after loving the first book in the series I found this one a bit of a chore to get through I'm afraid, didn't break new ground, but I'm glad I finished the story none the less

A little drawn out
Story is a little juvenile. Characters are rather two dimensional. Great idea for a series of books, just rather tame.

Starts poorly but redeems itself.
I wasn't happy for the first few chapters of the book but it improved immensely.
