Story
I left my family and tiny Texas hometown 15 years ago to escape small-town gossips and to give my mom and sister the chance at a better life. But when a phone call from an attorney back home informs me that my sister passed away, leaving me custody of her newborn baby, I'm shocked out of the steady life I've built for myself running a tattoo shop in San Francisco. The thing is: I don't do babies. And I don't do small towns. Or commitment. And I especially don't do family.

If there's one thing I know, it's how to play the game...both on and off the field. If it hadn't been for that one teenage slipup where I kissed Beau Campbell, I'd be able to keep fooling myself. Fabulous murder mystery

Summary
Since the death of their mother, Josten Applewhite has done what he's had to do to take care of his little brother and keep their small family together. But in an instant, a stroke of bad luck tears down what little home he's managed to build, and Jos and Isaac end up on the streets.
That's where Officer Kip Rogers finds them, and even though he knows he should let the proper authorities handle things, he cannot find it in his heart to turn them away, going so far as to invite them to stay in his home until they get back on their feet. With the help of Kip and his friends, Jos starts to rebuild his life. But experience has taught him nothing comes for free, and the generosity seems too good to be true - just like everything about Kip.
Kip's falling hard for Jos, and he likes the way Jos and Isaac make his big house feel like a home. But their arrangement can't be permanent, not with Jos set on making his own way. Then a distant relative emerges, determined to destroy Jos's family, and Kip knows Jos needs him - even if he's not ready to admit it.

Layers and layers
This is the third book in the series by Andrew Grey. It has a bit of a mystery feel to it as you learn more about Jos and Isaac. Also both Jos and Kip suffer from inability to communicate feelings so that adds to the events.
As the story progresses, it is nice to see how Jos starts to come out of his shell and learn to do for himself once he realises that he has help and that help is not going away.
I was left wondering if Kip’s ex had a hand in getting Jos’s aunt involved or if she did just hire a PI to find Jos and Isaac. From the minute she appeared, it was evident that she had ulterior motives to being there. It was great to see Kip pull the rug from under her!
Carter and Donald from book 2 make an appearance as does Red and Terry. The author is great at keeping timelines straight so this flows on from the other books in the series.
This book gave me a bit more insight into the workings of a gay relationship more than the previous books did. It was well written without being overly graphic at the naughty bits. Overall it is a great romance that happens to be between 2 men.

story 50/50 . narrator horrible!!!
Any additional comments?
Kip is a cop on the Carlisle police force and, while responding to a call, finds Jos and his 4 year old brother, Isaac, huddled in a doorway in the rain. They are homeless after losing their mother and their apartment. Kip is very nice man. But the Jos character was driving me mad! I didn't feel the connection between the Kip and Jos. Its not a bad story but not the great one ether .
Narrator was so bad! The 4 years old boy was sound like an 80 years old cranky man. Jos voice was so unpleasant, it was hard to concentrate on the story

As good as the ebook
The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.
The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between.
PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!
To my ratings:
5* - very very good
it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A
3* - it's more then a one-time-listening, but not more then twice a year.
it's like a B

The audio is so, so bad.
Would you be willing to try another one of Randy Fuller’s performances?
No, I will never get another one of his productions.
Any additional comments?
I cannot stress how bad the audio is. Both performance wise, and production issues. It's so choppy, audio leveling, sounds like an echo sometimes, and sometimes there's one-word edits that are so jarring.

Comfort listen
I have listened to many of AGs books and as always this one is a comfort listen that does not really impres but isnt bad either. The summery kind of says it all. No surprises, thats the storyline. The narrator could have been better - i didnt like that the kids voice was kind of nasal and irritating. Otherwise he is not bad, just mediocore.
