"Fire and Faith is the powerful and intimate story of the Queen, the wife, and the woman behind the unfair myth of Bloody Mary. Amanda Schiavo's story is a must read for Tudor fans everywhere." -Clemmie Bennett, author of The Apple and The Tree

Mary Tudor has done the impossible. She has taken back her throne in a bloodless coup, becoming the first woman to rule England in her own right. Now, as Mary navigates this uncharted path, she embarks on a mission to restore Catholicism in a country that has been torn apart by religious strife and become increasingly more Protestant.

Mary urgently feels the need to produce an heir, but her main concern is to preserve the souls of her people. Her methods, however, are gruesome and misguided. Soon Mary finds herself struggling to maintain the love of a country that once adored her, while remaining true to her conscience and her faith.

Impeccably researched, Mary's real story-much different from the "Bloody Mary" title history gives her-is filled with love, loss, betrayal, and an earnest desire to do the right thing.

This is a period of history that lots of us know the dates for and the bare bones of the history, but not much more, so it was fascinating to read this story, see life inside the palaces and learn more about the characters and their lives. Straight from the outset, you're drawn into the story and the characters with Issy Arnett's excellent narration. The pace doesn't flag for a moment. a real tour de force.

The narrator made this book stand out for me with an incredible cast of voices, each consistent and in the perfect accent for the character. Its hard to accept that its just one narrator performing the story, and she brings it to life superbly.

Outstanding narrator

I really enjoyed this very human perspective on the life of the imfamous Bloody Mary, presenting her as a woman trying her best to do the right thing while facing her own personal struggles.
I was completely blown away by Arnett's narration. She really embodied every character and made them totally believable while keep them consistent throughout. Excellent job

The narrator, Issy Arnett, has done the most fantastic job with this book. She has voiced numerous characters in compelling and memorable ways and her voice itself is so easy to listen to, smooth and resonant. The story of Mary Tudor is well researched and reasonably well written although the odd Americanism can be jarring - to this Brit anyway! But it is the narrator that makes the book shine!

Fantastic Narrator!

I knew the rough events of this time period but I thoroughly enjoyed getting to see a fictionalised retelling from the characters POV. I found myself searching online to learn more about the real people. The author did a wonderful job at making these historical figures more relatable.

Arnett's performance blew me away - I cried with her during scenes. Her character differentiation and accent work is incredible - you completely forget she's one person telling you the story. She made me loathe some characters and love others. I would sit in the car long after reaching my destination just to keep listening. What a talent.

Would highly recommend!
