Summary

On the back of a recent break up and her mom's shocking news, Anna wasn't looking for love, but it found her.

Lauren Vincenti comes from wealth. Her family has owned their famous vineyard in Corsica for generations, and they have a personal reputation to protect. Married to Rachel, she lives and works in London as a lawyer. That is, until her father commits suicide, and she is required to play her part in the family business.

Anna is an up-and-coming artist, following in her highly successful mother's footsteps. Her chance meeting with the seductive Vincenti, and their spontaneous dinner together, changes her life forever. Is there such a thing as love at first sight? Can she ever trust again, and what happens when she does?

Story good - reader appalling

Story was good but whatever possessed having an American reading - she simply did not have the variations or tempo !! It took me many chapters to get into the story due to the accent and the the lack of any timing or differentiation in characters - v v poor. Performance would have been 0 or minus but couldn’t make that happen!!

Don't waste your money!

The narrator is very poor. Don't know whether it is the fault of the reader or a technical fault but pauses in all the wrong places break up the sense of the writing and make it difficult to follow. It sounds like it is being spoken by a robot that does not understand what it is reading. Added to this the narrator speeds her speech up and slows it down, for no apparent reason, effectively making the story impossible to understand. I have given up listening to this book because I cannot understand what is going on. Disappointingly, this is one to read and not one to listen to.

A brilliant debut novel

This is such a great debut novel by Emma Nichols. I found this book by accident when it first came out. Over two years on I’ve listened to the audio and my opinion of the book hasn’t changed it really is a must read book. The plot is solid as are the characters and dialogue. The twists and curve balls leave you wanting more. I loved the characters and the story and it is an intelligently written book. Initially I wasn’t sure about an American narrator but do you know what it really works, Nicole Blessing does a fine job. If you are looking for a great Lesfic novel then your search is over.

Narrator is AWFUL

I couldn't get past 5 minutes before I had to shut it off. The narrators voice is awful and monotoned! I was interested in this story but Ill have to read it myself instead. Disappointed I couldn't enjoy this for my commute.

A Magical Series - Book 1

Anna broke up with her girlfriend when she cheated on her. Now she’s dealing with her mother’s health crisis. A rising star as an artist she has a chance meeting with Lauren Vincenti. Over dinner their immediate attraction is enchanting and they are drawn to each other. Can you love someone on first glimpse? A haunting start to a wonderful series. Perfect performance. Recommend series.

Good! Don't be put-off by the initial narration!

I really loved the story, but I initially had to fight the urge to simply stop listening! My opinion of the narration from the onset was that it was all read at the same speed & tone; it totally lacked in variation of pace & had no ebb & flow based on the feelings being expressed. I'm not sure when the shift took place, but I recall thinking at some point that the narrator was doing a great job with the different accents & timbre of voices. I may have just gotten used to the narration style or I may have been swept up by the storyline. Nonetheless, do give it a chance - it's a great story!

The narration

I don't usually return a book unfinished, but I was unable to follow the monotone narration, so I decided to skip this. Narrating a book is more than just reading the words out loud, and sadly, that was all this was. I was curious about the story, but not in this format.

Absolutely horrible narration

Could not finish book. Narration was horrible. Completely monotone, like someone reading a recipe. Nicole Blessing needs to find another line of work!

Great listen!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it’s been an adventure to listen to. My only complaint is that I would get confused when a new character would appear and I couldn’t tell the difference in the narration of them; or figure out how they pertained to the story. It always sorted itself out quickly though. Other than that it was absolutely fantastic and I’ll be quick to download the next in the series!

2.5 stars I hate to be the bad guy here.

I liked the idea behind this book. It had a pretty good storyline, but it was hard to follow along with the characters. Sometimes I had to rewind it several times in the same spot to figure out whose perspective I was supposed to be listening to. Plus there were some mistakes with the perspectives that had the characters mixed up with each other. I also thought things moved too fast or too slow.
