About this listen

Why is 'being happy' such an imperative nowadays? What meaning do people give happiness?

In this book Abbot Christopher turns to monastic wisdom to offer answers, and to explain that in essence, happiness is a gift, not an achievement, the fruit of giving and receiving blessings.

Following the same accessible and engaging format of FINDING SANCTUARY, Abbot Christopher takes different aspects of happiness, examines them, tells us what monastic wisdom has to say about them, and offers us steps towards our own journey to finding happiness.

Critic reviews

A jewel of a book
Anyone who enjoyed the surprise hit television series The Monastery should be delighted with Christopher Jamison's book ... by the end I was left with the definite impression that the author himself is a sincere and honourable man who sees, in the best aspects of the Rule of Benedict, a genuine solution to the abominable problems of modern living
Lucid and insightful ... Friendly, clever and original
His guidance is spot on. Heaven knows, most of us need all the peace we can get
What can a monk tell us about finding happiness in our complicated modern world? A surprising amount, is the answer
Generous with his insights, but never self-righteous, smug or preachy. I felt better for meeting him (Judy Finnigan)

I found this book exciting. It is rich in explanations and deep in understanding. I also bought a hard copy and on reading it, it furthered my appreciation of the richness of the author. I listen to it again and again.

The Benedictine Order has a history and it's members have a discipline moulded to the individual as well as the community. Would that more could assess the real spirituality of Dom Jamieson and his order.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an alternative to the rush and stress of today's living.

Finding Happiness is one of those rare gems of a book that serenely guides you through the trials of modern day life.
Father Jamison has an excellent delivery and is a highly skilled orator. As with Finding Sanctuary it has been a blessing to read the book and listen to the download.

Father Jamison takes the reader hand in hand to genuine inner joy. \"Are monks happy?\" His reply, \"They are not unhappy.\" That grabbed me straight away, along with his question about having a happy death! Having never thought about death being happy, on the rare occasions I think about death. I realised that to have a happy death, equates to having a happy and fulfilled life.

With his profound insights, and effective communication, this book remarkably mirrors humanities embedded condition. With such elegance, we're guided through many of the reasons that make us unhappy.

Ultimately the dark clouds dissipate, opening the door to inner happiness, if you so choose..

I pray that this also blesses you and sets you on a new track, as we pilgrim through life.

This book is of a solid foundation to make a significant change in your life. Its timing in this troubled era is perfect.
