Summary

She was a monster, sleek and gleaming, designed to strike without warning like the dreaded shark. She was the USS Mako, as fearless and bold as any submarine that ever prowled the blue Pacific. Her mission: seek out and destroy the hitherto invincible ships of the Japanese Imperial Navy - and revenge the earlier defeats of a long and dirty war. Here is the story of the men who pitted their lives against impossible odds in the most dangerous branch of the American armed services. It is a story of men pushed to the breaking point and beyond in the most nerve-wracking, heart-stirring warfare of all, a story of glory, grit, and guts, and of the astonishing resources that human beings call forth when put to the ultimate test.

Mixed bag... 4 star War & 1 star romance Novel.

Reader did a great job telling the story, but I believe he disliked Homewood's sidebar storylines as I did. Romantic interludes went to far and he choice to single out a Jewish sailor, nothing negative said, but why?
When he hit on the life of a submariner... its golden. Little recognition has been given to these men who stopped Japan as the U S rebuilt its Navy.

liked the story

I was riveted to the story but found the delivery by the narrator very very weak until the very end.

It was pretty good until the end

The characters and narration were pretty good, but the end of the story was a ripoff. It was like the author had a time deadline and just stopped the story instead of ending it. I would return the book but I did listen to it, don't make that mistake, you will be disappointed.
