About this listen

Pauly Johnson is a successful surgeon at a Melbourne hospital with a beautiful wife, a loving family and a memory he wishes he could erase.

One night, he takes a drive on a lonely road above a steep drop, determined to end it all, but before he can put his plan into action, a woman steps out of the darkness and into the path of his car. In an instant, her life is ended and his is saved.

Shattered by the experience, Pauly becomes obsessed with finding out who she was and why she wanted to kill herself. But he soon finds that the answers lie shockingly close to home....

Our anti hero Pauley is troubled. I am troubled by his name but I grew to like him and was on his side. The narrator performed the story and enhanced the thriller which revolves round our troubled Pauley?

I was absorbed by this tale and did not unravel the who and why they dunnit until the final chapters.

My criticism would be the repetitive writing style.. Pauley did this and Pauley did that are starting sentences over and over. It may have been a style choice to emphasise the characters approach to life.

I would like to read more by the author.

Good read

I was drawn in at the start, but felt it went downhill and there were too many coincidences to be credible.

Bit cliche

Easy to listen to, narrated well, good story that kept you guessing. I would defiantly remember to anyone who enjoys human interest stories with a touch of mystery.

Enjoyed listening to this

I wasn't expecting the story to go where it did - that's not a bad thing, it was enjoyable without being overly long, but I did find myself drifting off a bit at times.

It was enjoyable enough, nice narration & some good twists but I didn't find the characters particularly likeable or relatable.

Not what I was expecting.
