Publisher's Summary

Modern day wizard Felix Slade knows better than to meddle in the lives of witches. But when a chance encounter with a beautiful witch, Gabriella, sparks a vision of her demise at the hand of a werewolf, he knows he must act. To make matters worse, his vision reveals feelings he has for this woman he's only seen from afar, and in that moment his life is changed forever.

Trouble has been brewing in sleepy Leotown, but explodes when Felix witnesses the gruesome murder of Gabriella's coven leader and ends up number one on a short list of suspects. It's a poor start to their relationship when Gabriella and her coven sisters attack Felix while looking for answers. With her foot literally on his chest, Felix begins to doubt what he felt in his vision - that is, until the werewolves actually show up.

Wizard in a Witchy World is the first book in the Witchy World series - an urban fantasy, paranormal fairy tale.

    "A good story read well"

This is a great introduction to the witchy wood and the story is well told.

When Felix moved into Leo town for a new start, he wonders who he has upset as one thing leads to another and ......

Well that would be telling, listen to the story and you will fall in love with the characters as the story progresses.

Cute story. Sounds like a teen movie. I enjoyed the book a lot. It was full of humor and suspense. The main character had a sense of humor. I did not like the narrator.

    "I liked It, But..."

Author, Jaimie McFarlane has written an urban fantasy novel with the intent of starting a series. There are some good things in the novel, but there are some negative things as well. The love interest of the main character is manufactured and not believable like a million bad romance novels where people inexplicably just want each other for no reason and certainly no chemistry. Also, there is no real clear definition of the difference in witches, warlocks and wizards. Yet the book makes a strong point of there being a difference that matters to many of the characters in the story. Overall, “Wizard In A Witchy World” wasn’t bad. It just has some things that I think should have been addressed in editing. I did like the story enough to read/listen to the next book. If there isn't an improvement, I won’t be checking out anymore in the series.

    "Start of a fun series"

    The Story

Ok, first of all it's about darn time we get an urban fantasy world where the witches are on top! Just sayin'

Leaving that aside, this is a start of what I suspect is going to be a fun series. The characters are interesting and work well together and the writing is strong, as is the usual for this author. I fully expect to enjoy this book series.

    The Narration

I like this narration. The Narrator's voice was clear, he was able to distinguish between character "voices" successfully, he did a good job expressing tension and action scenes, and he kept a good pace. I'm not a huge audio-book listener but this one seemed to do everything I'd want it to.

"Great Story and great writing by Jamie as usual"

I am a serious SciFi fan so a book about Witches and Wizards was a step outside my norm. It took me a while to get into the first couple chapters but after that I was hooked. I like the subtle hints of the occult and the use of magical beings so to speak.
The hard part was Lou Lamberts narration. I eventually got used to his style but I continuously thought everyone was in their 50's and 60's. Obviously that wasn't the case. Messed with my minds visual a few times. I like Lou's voice and by the time I got to the end of the book I had everything sorted out.
Overall it was a pleasure to listen to and I would recommend it to anyone who would like something different to read. Now on to the next McFarlane book.

    "average at best"

The story is pretty good but is a little rushed which isn't helped at all with the narrator speaking so fast. I had to drop the speed down to .9 x so that it didn't feel like I was going to have an anxiety attack while listening.

    "Painful narration"

I normally love audiobooks. Listening to stories is my favorite way of consuming books. However, after five minutes of listening to this story I could not bear to listen to another moment.
I can't accurately judge the quality of the story because the voice and inflection are at such odds with the words.

    Story
    "Great new series!"

This is a good start on a new series. Felix Slade is an earth wizard who is an orphan. He arrives in Leotown to make a new start. He is thrown in the forefront of the action from the start of the book. He has vision (the only one in the story) of a lady in trouble and off he goes to play knight in shining armor. He is now a major suspect in all the murders and catastrophes that happen.

He has good defensive magic and can think fast on his feet. Many times, a wizard must have spells, which slows the action. Even without his jewelry, which stores extra power, Felix can magically defend himself.

Coming from a coven that way friendly and open, Felix has a rude awaking to a very structure witch world. You must register with the lead coven organization, avoid other coven territories and there are coven obligations. The incident, which drives the plot is the kidnapping of a little witch. She is just a child, who has been traumatized by the killing of her mother.

There is a supernatural world with werewolves, witches, and wizards. They live in a quaint little town where families have lived for generations. For magical families, this history makes a strong magical connection. The legacy of the magical families is another plot point and has consequences for our orphan hero.

There is enough witchy fighting that I was very satisfied. If you want a strong lead male character, a little romance, magic, interesting witches and other characters this has it all. I love it.

"great promise for the series, would like more back"

I like the series and intend on continuing with the next books. the only issues I have are the narrator not fitting this material he is more the hard boiled detective sort, imho, and hopefully after the results in this 1, the romantic scenes won't try and dominate the story, again, imho
All in all I still recommend this book and series, it has a cool magic system and the characters are definitely taking shape.

    "Kind of weak"

Narrator kind of sucked at his job. He was not believable. He made the main character sound 70 instead of whatever age he is supposed to be (which I never heard). The story line was all over the place not really making sense in most cases. I will never get another in the series.
