Publisher's Summary

This is not a great love story. This is a story about great love.

On a morning that seems just like any other, Robbie wakes in his bed, his wife Emily asleep beside him, as always. He rises and dresses, makes his coffee, feeds his dogs, just as he usually does. But then he leaves Emily a letter and does something that will break her heart.

As the years go back all the way to 1962, Robbie's actions become clearer, and we discover the story of a couple with a terrible secret - one they will do absolutely anything to protect.

Perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes' Me Before You, David Nicholls' One Day and M L Stedman's The Light Between Oceans.

    Story
"Bittersweet and very moving love story "

This is very clever love story which has at its core a moral dilemma which will set your mind racing. This is constructed so we go backwards in time looking at a couple who seem to be cheerfully and almost chillingly oblivious to the collateral damage their relationship has caused over the years. In this the author has dared to make them almost dislikeable, but not quite enough, and gradually as the story unfolds we begin to understand what actually makes them tick, and it all makes perfect sense. This is beautifully narrated by Gemma Whelan who tackles the various accents with great skill. I found this a very riveting listen and recommend it highly.

    "No Spoilers"

I really don't like it much when I know the answer to a puzzle and this one was way too easy to figure out very early in the book. But it was still sort of enjoyable nevertheless.

    Story
    "Intriguing and enthralling!"
What made the experience of listening to Together the most enjoyable?

Great expression in the performance of the reader.

What did you like best about this story?

    The resolution of the mystery.

Which character – as performed by Gemma Whelan – was your favourite?

Robbie was lovely, positive and practical. How sad was his decline?! But Emily was a wonderful, complex, compassionate character and it was to her that I warmed the most.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Going backwards was the only way to go forward.

    Any additional comments?

I did feel that what needed to be said, could have been said at a quicker pace sometimes. When the pace slowed, I felt in danger of losing interest in the meandering details.

"Great easy read with a twist"
What made the experience of listening to Together the most enjoyable?

Simple language structure and great narration.

What does Gemma Whelan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Clear diction and an enagging voice.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Emotional peaks and troughs that you can relate to without feeling you've been put through the ringer. Kept my interest until the end. A good one to listen to when there are distractions around as it's an interesting story but not so complex that you can't listen in short bursts without losing your way.
