Publisher's Summary

Science fiction, mystery, a passionate love story, and a detailed history of old New York blend together in this spellbinding story of a young man embroiled in a secret government experiment. Transported from the mid-1900s to the New York of 1882, Si Morley solves a mystery of the 20th century by discovering its 19th-century roots, and falls desperately in love with a beautiful young woman in the process. He ultimately finds himself forced to choose between his lives in the present and the past. This is the classic novel that has captivated an entire generation since its original publication in 1970.

    "Very Good"

A classic time travel story, which describes an experiment in which one can travel through time by self hypnosis. Very enjoyable and very well read. The sound quality is more like good FM Radio rather than CD, but I did not find it off-putting.

    "terrific"

Short, smart, terrific read - makes your head spin - great stuff. Stephen King said this was the book that influenced him in his time travel book about the Kennedy assassination. Read that too!

"A good story treated very badly."

The audio quality on this is pretty appalling (it sounds like a very dated radio recording) and the listening experience is made worse by frequent musical segments played behind the beginning and end of each chapter, but as these tend to run on for near 30 seconds each the narration is almost completely drowned out.

This abridged version feels very choppy and it is likely the result of heavy editing to get this to fit into a set time slot when originally broadcast.

It is bearable all things considered, and I did manage to finish the title, but it is unlikely to be something you revere or re-visit.

    "Totally captivating"

A brilliantly written and superbly read story. By the end it was so believable. Everyone should read this and wonder afresh is time travel just a dream or has it actually happened already.

"Time and Again by Jack Finney"

Mr. Finney has written an enthralling, imaginative novel. I have read the printed version at least 4, perhaps 6, times. Each time I read it I must choose the proper time as this book will capture you and transport you to Old New York for the duration and you will be able to accomplish little else until its conclusion.
I count this book among my most prized possessions. After a hiatus of seven years, I have again started "folding back the gold foil".

    "What a tranporting book!"

I've never read this book before, and listening makes me want to go get the printed copy and add it to my library! This was very imaginative and caught my attention until the end. I had a hard time putting it down! I loved the characters and how they interacted with each other. I also really enjoyed the fact that there wasn't alot of bad language interspersed in the book. This is an all around magical book, that will transport you to another time! Enjoy!

"I've always enjoyed Time Travel books..."

I've always really enjoyed Time Travel premises for books and really enjoyed this whole book! I was quite surprised to find out what the promise at the end was, and how the main character carried it out. I also enjoyed the ending...

"Perfect story matched with a perfect Narrator"

Just as the ability and range of the actor can bring a play to life, so is the vocal range and intonations of the narrator of an audible book. "Time and Again" is very entertaining. I could have read it and been completely captivated by it. But, Campbell Scott's narration had me mezmerized. No other way to describe it. The comdination of the book and narration was excellent!

    "Abridged a mistake"

There is so much more to this book. Abridging it is a major disservice. I can't recommend it for that reason.

    "Best book EVER"

I lived in NYC for 15 years. A friend bought this book for me and said that everyone was reading it. It changed how I looked at the city. I would walk in Central Park and I could see it in the 1800. The story is gripping and sadly, in the Audio version you miss the beautiful old photos.( I do have the paperback as well because of that) I wish I could travel back in time as well. I think that NYC would be my destination too. I have lent this book to many people. I have also bought it as a gift to some. This one will be in my library forever. And the fact that it takes place in the Dakota building is of course a plus. I think all in all I have read this book 4 times and listened to it once. This will be the second time.

    "Drat You, Abridged Versions!"

Abridgment here is a travesty. This is a wonderful book, and Campbell Scott is a great narrator. But you need it all! Fortunately, Audible has added an unabridged version of this classic. Go for that one, definitely, even tho the narrator is not as good!
Many people think "Time and Again" ranks with the best of 20th century mysteries. It presents time travel in a totally believable way, and 19th century New York City comes wonderfully alive. The characters and the suspense are well portrayed. I recommend this wholeheartedly. Just be sure to get the full version.

    "Great Story. Great Audiobook"

I chose this book based on a recommendation from the Afterword by Stephen King, in his audiobook/novel 11-22-63. He claimed it was the definitive book on time travel and that was what inspired him.

I bought the abridged version, but wished I got the unabridged version. It is a very entertaining story. The narration is excellent, and as far fetched as time travel may sound, he makes this believable. The characters are likable and there is a good storyline. I have recommended this to several of my friends who have liked it as much as I did.

"One Star for Seriously Abridged...ruined it for me"

The Abridged version is soooooo short that it ruins the entire story, I bought the abridged by mistake, I NEVER buy abridged versions of anything, so I'm rather mad at myself this time. Fortunately I own the book so I'll just read it. I loved the narrators voice, beautiful voice, I could listen to him for....well, ever! DO NOT BUY THE ABRIDGED VERSION of this very nice story!
