Summary
From the fertile hills of a tiny village near Jerusalem to the elegant townhouses of Georgetown, Three Daughters is a historical saga that chronicles the lives, loves, and secrets of three generations of Palestinian Christian women.
Born in rural Palestine, just before the dawn of the 20th century, Miriam adores her father and is certain his love will protect her, but she soon finds that tradition overrides love. Uprooted by war, Miriam enters a world where the old constraints slip away with thrilling and disastrous results. Miriam's rebellious daughter, Nadia, is thrilled with the opportunity for a modern life that her elite education provides. But when she falls in love with an outsider, the clan reins her back with a shocking finality. Nijmeh, Nadia's daughter, is an only child and the path her father, the sheik, sets for her is fraught with difficulties, yet it prepares her for her ultimate journey to America, where she finds her future.
Each woman, in her own time and in her own way, experiences a world in transition through war and social change... and each must stretch the bounds of her loyalty, her courage, and her heart.

Excellent Narration
This story was intriguing. I loved the way it traced the generations in the historical context. I was absolutely entranced by the narrator's skill in bringing the story alive. I will look for other books narrated by her.

Entrancing book with fantastic narration
A truly engaging story which was brought alive by some fabulous narration (the best I've come across in an audio book).
Wonderful, rich characters and stunningly written backdrop. Only quibble were the sudden changes of personality experienced by some characters, later actions seemed inconsistent.

What a Saga!
Would you consider the audio edition of Three Daughters to be better than the print version?
I liked it like a decent, reliable friend that is benign presence in you life. I enjoyed the lengthy and enjoyable journey and felt engaged in the lives, loves and losses.
Any additional comments?
A good listen that lingers in the memory and is not the last word in great literature.

Beautiful...
Beautiful story of three generations of woman finding their way. The narrator was wonderful and did a good job of the accents.

It was like listening to soft porn at times
All the women in the story started off strong then all felt weak at the knees over some bloke and you know the rest. Lots of sex scenes if you like that kind of thing. Overall to me a disappointing experience. Could have been so much better. There were elements to the story that I did enjoy but lacked any kind of substance.

What happened to the author half way through the book, lost momentum or inspiration?
Had the potential to be a really great story but completely lost its way and ended up being simply boring with poorly drawn characters. Kept asking myself what happened to the author about half way through.

Very enjoyable!
Would you listen to Three Daughters again? Why?
It's a brilliant audiobook but I never listen to the same book again as there are so many other books I want to listen to!
What did you like best about this story?
It's a good story combined with some historical facts from a part of the world that I know little about.
What about Karen Peakes’s performance did you like?
She was brilliant! I often don't like it when the same reader uses different tones / accents for different characters but she did a very good job.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were a lot of moving parts.
Any additional comments?
Would love to listen to more from the same author but her later books do not appeal to me as much as this one did.
