Summary

A new adult story of Love. Sex. Addiction. Blackmail. And power...

Some say love can be an addiction. Others say it's the thing that makes life worth living. Let me tell you everything I know about love...Love isn't patient, love isn't kind. Love is a game, a chase. A thrill. Love is wild and war-like, and every man and woman must fight for themselves. At least that's how it was for me. A high-priced virgin call girl by the time I started college, I was addicted to love and to sex. Even though I've never had either. I controlled love, played it, and held the world in the palm of my hands. Then I fell down from those highs, and I'm being blackmailed for all my mistakes, forced to keep secrets from everyone, except the only guy I don't regret.

Trey...

With all the other women, I knew what they were. They were temporary. They were pills, they were bottles, they took away all the pain, and numbed the awful memories that wore down my ragged, wasted heart. Until I met Harley. She's the only girl I ever missed when she walked away. But now she's back in my life, every day, and there are no guarantees for us, especially since I don't know how to tell her my secrets. What happened to my family. All I know is she's the closest I've ever come to something real, and I want to feel every second of it.

How can you love with no regrets when regret is all you know?

Interesting plot...melodramatic characters

I thought that the plot of this book was unique (at least relatively) which was the reason that I continued listening until the end, There were definitely some nice twists and turns which kept me interested at times. That being said the characters and writing style were WAY too melodramatic for me and I never really picked up on the chemistry between the two main characters. I won't be reading or listening to the sequel, but I also liked it enough that I won't return it. I did enjoy the narration, though. I thought that Erin did a nice job of giving each character his/her own voice. Listeners who enjoy lengthy passages describing exaggerated feelings and LOTS of angst might enjoy this but it just wasn't for me.

Different kind of character background

When I first started listening to this book, I was puzzled by Harley's addiction. There are all kinds of addictions, I guess there is a sex and love one too. Very interesting. The relationship between Trey and Harley is interesting as well. I enjoyed the story that Lauren Blakely tells and the way Erin Mallon tells it. At first it seemed silly, but when you look at their ages and their backgrounds, I guess it certainly is possible for such addictions. Love Lauren Blakely's story telling.

A RAW & RIVETING JOURNEY OF ADDICTION & LOVE

I love all of Lauren Blakey's books but she really outdid herself with this Duet which tells the story of two damaged young adults who battle against their sex addiction, their disfunctional families, their haunting tragic memories, the temptations of a likeable pimp, secrets, blackmail and loss. But, as Trey and Harley's relationship goes from a close solid friendship to soul mates, the one thing that becomes clearer and clearer is the deep undying love they have for each other.. a love that kept their demons away and kept them off the path that would lead them to emotional disaster.

This listen was all consuming as 19 yr old College Student Harley and 20 yr old Tattoo Artist and fellow College Student Trey meet for the second time at SLAA (Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous). Their lives are spiralling out of control.. Harley is a teenage virgin call girl who loves the control and thrill she gets when she transforms herself into Layla and Trey's heartbreaking past made him a teenage manwhore servicing all the neglected needy trophy wives in the apartment building he grew up in. They both desperately want to change their circumstances so go to SLAA hoping to stop their toxic sex addictions. Their strong attraction to each other is instant but risky as they must avoid triggers so become platonic friends only. But as time passes they become closer, they give in to their sexual attraction, they face their fears, they support one another, they find inner strengths and become inseparable lovers. And, when unforeseen twists, temptations and emotional hurdles threaten they have each other to lean on. New challenges are ahead and new horizons appear for these loveable characters and hope begins to blossom for a now 21 yr old Harley and 22 yr old Trey.

L.B. shows her outstanding writing abilities in these two books detailing an intense, deep and emotional love story between two haunted young adults who find their soul-mate and face their demons together, overcome difficulties together, forge new beginnings together.. and eventually get their beautiful HEA ending together. Erin Mallon's dual POV narration was absolutely perfect and her male voice was excellent.

Worth a credit? Yes for each of the books - it was a unique storyline, an enjoyable listen and an unforgettable Duet.

Incredible story like no other!

I have read every one of Lauren Blakely's books. And they are all wonderful. But her latest The Thrill of It is in a class by itself. Truly.

This well written story of Trey and Harley was raw yet touching and heartbreaking yet heartwarming. It is the journey of two broken people who meet simply by accident and neither of them is ever the same. They are both trying to better themselves and reclaim the self-esteem that family members have stolen from them. From that theft of their souls, both Trey and Harley use physical relationships as a way to make themselves feel whole. Unfortunately for both of them...that just doesn't work anymore. But fortunately, fate steps in and thankfully they become a part of each other's lives.

Their journey through addiction and low self-worth had me riveted from page one. Lauren gives us two very complex yet down to earth characters who you can't help but root for. Although they struggle with their daily lives and pasts they would rather forget, they are two very real people that could be any one of us. There were so many times I just wanted to dive into the pages and give them both a hug.

This storyline is a bit of a departure for Lauren Blakely. The passion, romance and love is there as always but her writing is on a whole other level and what you are left with is a book that you can't stop thinking about long after you have read it. This tells of two people who want to be better, to heal and purge themselves of those who have made them feel like less than they can and should be.

The narration was perfect and the narrator's inflections were spot on. Even though I have also read this book in Kindle form, it was as if the book was brand new to me with the Audible version. It's that good!!!

I simply loved this book and even though it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, I know that Ms. Blakely will deliver us a sequel that will be worth the wait.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is truly brilliant.

I absolutely fell in love with this story!

Where does The Thrill of It (No Regrets) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Erin does a great job with narrating this read. She really understands and portrays the characters in the way I would have thought they would sound when I was reading this book.

What other book might you compare The Thrill of It (No Regrets) to and why?

Every Second With You is the sequel and it is a definate must.

Have you listened to any of Erin Mallon’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Live Life With No Regrets!

Any additional comments?

The Thrill of It is a sinfully dark and heart wrenching love story unlike anything I have ever read before. I am still feeling the aftereffects of the roller coaster of emotions I felt while reading this story. The Thrill of It pierced my soul and left me shaking. This is unlike any of Lauren's other books.

From the very beginning my heart breaks for Harley. She is beautiful on the inside as well as the outside even though she doesn't believe it. I kept asking myself how she got herself in such a horrible situation. This book is written to where the events that led to the current situation are not revealed until the end. This kept me on edge and gripped my heartstrings. I did not want to believe what I was reading. This could not be happening. How could it?

Trey was a mystery to me. Is he a good guy or a bad guy? Why is he drawn to Harley? She is so young and he is into older women, not 19 year old virgins. It frightens me to the core that he is going to break her heart. Trey is seriously damaged and is broadcasting his pain through the tattoos inked on his body. He is holding on to horrible memories that are tearing him up inside and he will not let anyone in.

Then there is Cam. He is like a slime ball used car salesman that you want to hate, but at the same time you feel sorry for him. How could he stoop so low?

The chemistry between Trey and Harley is scorching hot. Harley experiences pleasure like she has never known before. Trey's dirty thoughts get my heart racing and my panties wet. Look out ladies you may need to break out B.O.B. when you read what is going through Trey's dirty mind. Lauren hits a home run in seduction once again.

In the end, can true love survive between Trey and Harley when they are so irrevocably damaged? I sure hope so. We will just have to wait and see...
