Summary

Nine years ago Erin Walsh ran away from everything. Home. Family. Secrets. Tragedy. Herself. The only permanence in her life is catastrophe. She travels from country to country chasing disaster, teasing fire, playing with poison. She guards against real connections and shuns the only family she has left.

She holds everyone - even her siblings - at a mile-long distance. It's the only way to protect herself. But she can't protect herself from him. He's the ice to her fire, and he's willing to sacrifice everything to bring her home.

Loved it!

I absolutely adore the Walsh series by Kate Canterbary. I have read all the books multiple times, but the audiobook really adds to the enjoyment. Listen, love, turn around and do it all again, you won't regret it. Loved the narrators too, the dream team always deliver.

I'm back in it!

Any additional comments?

Book 5 wasn't my favorite but this cover sold me honestly and I'm so glad I made that choice because it was a total 5 star for me. Kate writes such sexy stories and you couple that with Christian Fox and it's a match made in audio heaven.

Everything I Hoped For

I wanted Nick and Erin's story to be fabulous and it was! I was already hooked on this complicated and caring family but this was the absolute best. Delivered with humor and sensitivity, this love story feels authentic. The characters are adventurous, and thier love story is true to the characters. It was perfect... pure entertainment on audio with top narrators.

Not the typical Walsh Story

3.5 Stars

Though I love this series, I've always been curious as to what Shannon and Erin's issues were. What would make Shannon, who is a complete momma bear to all her siblings, not want to speak to Erin... Ever!

But this book took forever to tell me. And once I knew, it just seems so anticlimactic. I also didn't like that 75% of the book was either told in text, email, or in Erin and Nick's thoughts. I get that this was a very different way for Kate to tell her story of a member of the Walsh Family, but it just felt like it took forever to get anywhere.

I liked their getting to know each other in a non-traditional way, but I just didn't love it. I also, don't think I ever really understood Riley's predicament. In previous books, all of the sisters-in-laws were concerned about Riley in some way, shape, or form. But I don't think it was ever clear about his feelings for Lauren until this book.

Now I'm really curious about his story. Looking forward to the next book. Hopefully it's much better than this one and goes back to her traditional story telling mode.

Christian Fox with a southern accent!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Spire to be better than the print version?

As hard as it is to top the brilliance of The Spire in print, the audio version is perfection! The slight southern accent that Christian Fox uses to bring Nick to life is perfection!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Spire?

Christian Fox using a southern accent!

Which character – as performed by Lucy Rivers and Christian Fox – was your favorite?

All of them! They do such a fantastic job of giving each character - main or sub-character - their own voice. They are able to carry that voice throughout the entire series not just book to book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed and cried while reading and listening to this book. Kate Canterbary knows how to pull you into her well-developed stories and make you want to live in the Walsh world.

An emotional journey home for Erin

I am a huge fan of this series, but you definitely don't need to have read all the previous books to fall in love with this story. From the very beginning, there were jaw-dropping moments that kept my interest piqued. As with all of Kate's books, she immerses herself in the characters telling their story. You get inside their heads and ride all of the emotions that they are feeling along with them. Erin could easily be misunderstood by an outsider, but the way the story is written, you most definitely connect with her and understand how her life has come to fruition the way that it has. All I can say is this story blew me away.

Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers are by far my favorite narrators. They do a fabulous job capturing the emotion and demeanor of each of the characters. I loved the book, and the audio had me getting a new perspective on several scenes in the book because the performance of this duo is just so outstanding!!!

Lucy Rivers and Christian Fox do it again.

This is my fourth audible by these two narrators. They are by far my favorite working together. Christian Fox doing a southern Texas accent is everything. I read The Spire back in December and couldn't wait to know when the audio for this book would be available.

The flow and the emotions these two narrators produced I felt throughout.

I love that Ms. Canterbary can always rely on both narrators to give a stellar performance reading her words. I am looking for to Preservation when Christian Fox will bring Riley to our ears.

Good story, excellent narration

I bought this then it got buried in my to read file by accident. So sorry I put off reading it. I really wanted to wait till the audible book came out. I read and listen. It's a good one. It explains more what happened between Shannon and Erin and why Erin was so elusive in all the other Walsh Series books. Good read. Loved the narrators. Did an excellent job keeping character's voices separate.
