A series above and beyond the expected

Sometimes a series feels like it had the potential to be epic. The Annika Brisby series feels just like that.

Firstly, while it isn't necessary to have read or listened to the first book, I think reading the books in order helps. The first two books have ended with a link to the next story. This book has several references to events, etc in the previous book.

That said, while the first book had the flavour of Lord of the Rings (especially with its mixed band of characters going on a quest that ends with a battle), this book is more modern. Most of the story takes place in our world, where the technology and details are current and familiar to us. This story addresses the biggest issue that emerges from the first book, namely the rather quick marriage between young Annika and overly experienced Talvi. Taken out of the realm where fairies and nymphs roam and away from the challenges that feature heavily in the start of their relationship, Annika and Talvi find themselves married and unsure of what to do with their relationship. They struggle to be together in normal day to day existence, to learn and accept each other, and to face their rather daunting insecurities. Their union brought on numerous physiological changes to Annika that they also have to adjust to. But then no one said the first year of marriage would be easy.

Emigh Cannaday has written a fascinating story that has great potential as a series. Nick Cracknell's performance has a lyrical, story telling quality that works well with this genre.

Overall enjoyable. I am looking forward to the next book in the series!

If you could sum up The Silver Thread in three words, what would they be?

Wonderful, brilliant awesome.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the way the story is moving forward from the first book. It is completely different yet just as interesting. It still carries glimpses back so we can see what is going on at home while moving into Annica's world to show us where she comes from. It starts to explain a little about Talvi, the things that were hidden about his life and his character. We are seeing Annika's friends and family and they are fitting seamlessly into the story I like how funny everyone is even when not even trying, I smiled and laughed so much while listening. Talvi is even sexier if that is even possible.

Have you listened to any of Nick Cracknell’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I listened to the audio version of the flame and the arrow that he narrated before listening to this one. I really enjoyed it, but this second book had me deeply involved because the performance by Nick seemed to have developed as he had been reading the books. He was as involved in reading the story as I was in listening to it. This time he "lived" it and so I could as well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The relationship between Finn and Annica is a very emotional one that causes Finn to feel very guilty. He is such a beautiful selfless soul that feels things very deeply.and when he talks to Annika about his feelings it really makes me want to cry for him, for the love he feels and can never have.

The book ends on a cliffhanger which I always hate lol. I hope the next audible version comes out soon.
