Publisher's Summary

A Roman soldier, Marcellus, wins Christ's robe as a gambling prize. He then sets forth on a quest to find the truth about the Nazarene's robe, a quest that reaches to the very roots and heart of Christianity. Set against the vividly drawn background of ancient Rome, this is a timeless story of adventure, faith, and romance, a tale of spiritual longing and ultimate redemption.

    "Excellent book"

I very much enjoyed this book. The characters are beautifully flawed and find grace and forgiveness through Christ. Very well written and read.

    Story
"Wonderful ,important story for OUR times"

Only problem with the otherwise excellent narration is that there are absolutely no pauses between important topic or character changes. So if you are not listening very carefully, it can be most confusing when all of a sudden you are with a new character , new location etc. lots of "'back 30'sec"'needed to follow those changes .

    Story
    "AWESOME, COMPELLING"
Where does The Robe rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very high, like top five. I was intending to read only religious books for lent, and this was such a delight that I felt like I was cheating! What a wonderfully written, beautifully told story. I am telling everyone I know to read it. Inspiring and intelligent, and also (unexpectedly), very witty. Love, Love!!!

    Story
    "Don't get discouraged"

I was immediately discouraged when I first started listening because this was the only rendition by any narrator of this story. I began the book and the narrator was sooooo bland I did not want to continue listening. But I wanted to hear the story and this was the only narrator for the title. But as my title says don't get discouraged.....because after the first 5-10 minutes the narrator gets into the story and his voice becomes way more engaging and I really began to love it. He does different voices for different characters and becomes animated in his speaking. I now am really enjoying this book and listening to the narrators voice. I was recommended this book by my aunt and I fell in love with this wonderful story. It is an older book but the story is timeless and the author did a fantastic job and the writing style really draws you into the story. I am only in the beginning few chapters but I wanted to share my expirience thus far with others. Highly recommend

What did you love best about The Robe?

    Excellent story and narration.

What other book might you compare The Robe to and why?

Quo Vadis. Same historical time frame, with Romans finding out about Christianity.

    Story
"Great story - narration almost great"

I love this tale and have read the book several times since discovering it back in high school. This is the first audio version I've "read." The narrator was good, but the pauses between sections - when the story shifted - weren't pronounced enough to avoid confusion, and the voicing was, at times, a bit too unemotional.
