Summary
Not every door should be opened....
With stunning locations, The Paris Secret is an intense and gripping tale from best-selling author Karen Swan.
Somewhere along the cobbled streets of Paris, an apartment lies thick with dust and secrets: full of priceless artworks hidden away for decades. High-flying fine art agent Flora from London, more comfortable with the tension of a million-pound auction than a cosy candlelit dinner for two, is called in to assess these suddenly discovered treasures. As an expert in her field, she must trace the history of each painting and discover who has concealed them for so long.
Thrown in amongst the glamorous Vermeil family as they move between Paris and Antibes, Flora begins to discover that things aren't all that they seem, while back at home her own family is recoiling from a seismic shock. The terse and brooding Xavier Vermeil seems intent on forcing Flora out of his family's affairs - but just what is he hiding?

Superb!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
It had drama, intrigue, romance all intertwined in the story

Irresponsible fake rape accusation storyline
A vindictive false rape accusation is incredibly rare. One that gets past both police and CPS is a one in literally millions odds. To make matters worse, the accuser having visited the accused's flat the next day is given as "proof" the allegation was false. Though genuine victims often do such when they know their rapists, as a vain attempt to convince themselves there was some misunderstanding.
Ditto the accused's family "knowing" he would never rape anyone. Classic rape culture/rape myths.

Perfect for an entertaining listen
Narrator is great at reading this story. Does the French accents well.
Nice gentle plot line for easy listen. Interesting to learn a bit more about art and the role it played it WW2. Typical romance included. Female character strong and intelligent.

A lovely story of uncovering the hidden past.
I did really enjoy this story of a hidden cache of art that slowly unravels somebody's hidden past. The only thing that's slightly tarnished the story for me was the the (forced rather than natural) 'weakness' of the female protagonist. Would we really act like Flora around an arrogant pig of a man?

Simply Oarfull Daarling
It was a mistake to buy this book , the nauseating opening chapter just proved too much for my constitution. If you like your heroine to read Tatler , showjump with her pearl necklace and like driving Daddy's Aston Martin to the ball then this is for you....

Marvellous
As usual, Karen Swan has written a book with a fascinating story which
Introduces the reader to a subject maybe he or she didn’t’t know much about before. All her books have given me new interests and taken me to new places, and her characters are intriguing, if maybe not always not quite realistic. Who cares, when she writes such marvellous stories? I absolutely loved this. Katie Scarfe’s narration is perfect, it could not have been better. Can’t wait for Karen Swan’s next book!

A tempestuous tale, powerfully emotive
An intensely emotional book. The story is soul-stirring, and at times heart-breaking. Wonderfully written with perfect passages capturing the essence of Paris and the French Riviera, and narrated beautifully with fantastique French accents.

Good story
Good story and well narrated. I felt the "love interest"'part of the story slightly distracted overall from the mystery of the plot - and padded out the story too much. But it was overall enjoyable and encouraged me to research some of the historical themes raised in the book.
