Summary

Lysander Hawkley combined breathtaking good looks with the kindest of hearts. He couldn't pass a neglected wife without rushing to the rescue, which invariably led to ecstatic bonking, which didn't please their erring husbands one bit. Let loose among the neglected wives of the ritzy county of Rutshire, Lysander causes absolute havoc.

But it is only when he meets Rannaldini, Rutshire's King Rat and a temperamental, fiendishly promiscuous international conductor, that the trouble really starts....

Trashy but brilliant

Everything you could ever want from a Jilly Cooper novel. Boobs, boys, beauty, bonking and downright loveable characters all entwined in one big messy plot. Yes it’s trashy, yes it’s impossible to stop listening, and yes PLEASE make me a character in one of these novels.

Just fun

For a miserable January this was the perfect antidote. Brilliant story. Fantastic narration. Complete escapism.

The best and funniest of Jilly's many chronicles

My 4 favourite JC books are the first 4 of Jilly's Rupert Campbell Black sagas which also happen to be the first 4 of this particular series. This one is my favourite of them all. Peppered with hysterical one liners, this is a mega write, seriously funny, thoroughly entertaining and with characters you both love and hate and as you should and as intended. It has a lovely ending too and just very endearing hero and heroine in Lysander and Kitty. It's pure fantasy of course but wonderful to lose yourself in when real life just becomes unbearable which it frequently does and especially as Winter draws in. I don't know why anyone would not enjoy this book. It has everything a good book should have, a happy ending, lots of characters both male and female, wonderful animals, glamorous settings, rich people, affluent lifestyles as well as some eco and green ones, a fantastically funny nativity and is just as delicious as a hot chocolate after a bubble bath in winter. If you love horses and Polo as I do there is some of that and some glorious equines included and all as an added bonus as well. Thoroughly recommended.

Loved it. The best Anti covid depressant!

Brilliant listening. Helps boring jobs fly by, though you have to watch who's near by as laughing out loud is a regular by product of listening to these books.

An old favourite ..

I love this book and have read in hardback many times.
Of course the story was still fabulous but I really struggled with the narration.. the accents were terrible .. all had a similar twang… they were all wrong.
It didn’t ruin the story but it was a difficult listen.

A cracking good listen!

I've read the book but thoroughly enjoyed the audio version. Recommend this for a light hearted listen and you can pick the story up easily in between listening.

Brilliant. Loved it

I’m thoroughly enjoying working my way through the Rutshire Chronicles. I read these books years ago and loved them then. The narration is brilliant. Jolly Cooper your sense of humour is hilarious but I also love the descriptions of the animals and countryside
