Publisher's Summary

Enjoy another witty, emotional book in New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Erica Ridley's fan-favorite Dukes of War regency romance series!

When Major Bartholomew Blackpool learns the girl-next-door from his childhood will be forced into an unwanted marriage, he returns home to play her pretend beau. He figures now that he's missing a leg, a faux fiancée is the best an ex-soldier can get. He admires her pluck, but the lady deserves a whole man - and he'll ensure she gets one.

Miss Daphne Vaughan hates that crying off will destroy Major Blackpool's chances of finding a real bride. She plots to make him jilt her first. Who cares if it ruins her? She never wanted a husband anyway. But the major is equally determined that she break the engagement. With both of them on their worst behavior, neither expects their fake betrothal to lead to love...

    "fun story"

I enjoyed listening to this. though at times I wanted to bash Daphne and Bartholomew over the head for their repeated insecurities. But those made the HEA all the better. Mildly sexual but well done.

    Story
    "Strong characters with obvious flaws"

This was every bit as good, if not better than the previous three books in this series.
He is a man back from the war and missing part of his leg and she is a young lady who is being forced to marry within a month by her guardian or face being locked up.
Of course she immediately turns to a man she knew when they were both younger and the story unfolds..... With many a good chuckle and surprises in store for the reader.
Both characters have been written as strong people yet with obvious flaws and this makes this story very readable and most enjoyable.
I hope you enjoy this book and audiobook version as much as I have.

Bartholomew Blackpool went away to war, and came back without his leg or his twin brother, and has not shown his face in society since his return. Daphne Vaughan, his childhood friend, lost her father and is being forced into unwanted marriage by her guardian with the threat of being committed to an asylum if she doesn't comply. When Bartholomew steps up to be Daphne's "faux fiance" until she comes of age and is no longer under her guardian's thumb, the two of them are launched into a journey that makes them realize that life can go on after the horrors of war, and perhaps marriage isn't the worst thing that can happen to an independent young lady.

This is the third full-length novel in the series, and I have to say it's the one I enjoyed the most. Sure, I wanted to slap Bartholomew on the head more than once for wallowing in self-pity, and Daphne does have a one-track mind throughout the majority of the book, but the characters really grow and develop naturally throughout the story. If you only pick up one book in the series, make it this one.

I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

    Story
"Another enjoyable Dukes of War book"
    Any additional comments?

Another sweet and light Regency romance from Erica Ridley. There is something particularly sweet about two childhood friends falling in love. Major Blackwell drops everything and dashes off to come to the aid of his old friend, Daphne, the girl next door. The pair even have cute childhood nicknames for each other. Of course I was fully expecting them to fall in love and for the faux fiancée element to become real fiancée by the end. I just had to sit back and enjoy the story unfold.
I liked the characters Daphne and Bartholomew. I sympathised with Major Blackpool's issues and admired Daphne for her independent spirit but she was too rigid in her thinking for my liking. However, both characters find a way to overcome these issues by the end.

I particularly enjoyed the appearance of characters from earlier in the series; Amelia and Lord Ravenwood. I'm still in anticipation of a HEA for Lord Ravenwood. Katherine was a very likeable character. Maybe her doddering old aunt will play match maker.

I hadn't read the blurbs for any of the books yet to come in the series so the sneak peak at the next book had me exclaiming OMG!!

Can't wait!

I voluntarily received a review copy.

    Story
    "Light Readind/Listening "

I didn't exactly love it but I got through it. I'm kinda burned out with stories of this Era in British history. I am done with the alleged "good guy" being unable to resist seducing the heroine no matter how young she is. So he sets about "ruining her" because he can' wait. I doubt that any Ton young female looking to just give away her innocence. I know that from my own experience, it took more than his attraction to me and my naive atraction to him. whereas books written before women readers began to rebel against the treatment of the women, you know, rape and 19 different hells the women suffered at the hands of the man who was supposed to "LOVE" them.

    Story
    "A Charming Fiance"
Would you listen to The Major's Faux Fiancee again? Why?

    Yes. It's very enjoyable.

What other book might you compare The Major's Faux Fiancee to and why?

The Duke's Accidental Wife. They weren't looking for a wife or a fiancée, but they ended up with one.

What does Stevie Zimmerman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Humor and really great accents that help move the story along

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Ex-soldier with secrets, a very determined lady, Romance will never be the same.

    Story
"Not quite as good as previous books"

Not my favorite of the series. It took me a while to get into it and it turned out interesting enough. However, I couldn't ever come to like Daphne and Bartholomew until the book was almost over. I felt the humor of the previous books was missing.

The narration was good (pronunciation of phaeton aside) and I will continue to read the series. The book was enjoyable just not my favorite.
