Laura has it all. A successful career, a long marriage to a rich husband, and a 23-year-old son, Daniel, who is kind, handsome and talented. Then Daniel meets Cherry. Cherry is young, beautiful and smart, but she hasn't had the same opportunities as Daniel. And she wants Laura's life. Cherry comes to the family wide-eyed and wants to be welcomed with open arms, but Laura suspects she's not all that she seems.
Kim Brewster's ill-fated marriage was annulled so quickly that she thought she could keep the whole thing a secret...until she found out she was pregnant. But before her confession can blow a hole in the seemingly perfect lives of the Brewster women, her great-grandmother, Hannah, drops a bomb of her own. She's selling her hotel and moving to a farm in Oklahoma - and all the Brewsters are coming with her.
Leaving one widow behind is unfortunate. Leaving three widows behind is just plain despicable. Oil heiress Kate Steele knew her not-so-dearly departed husband was a con man, but she's shocked that Conrad racked up two more wives without divorcing her first. The only remnant of their miserable marriage she plans to keep is their lakeside cabin in Bootleg, Texas. Unfortunately, she's not the only woman with that idea.
Hart Ducaine was the love of Kate Miller's life, but he hadn't been interested in a long-term relationship with her 15 years before. So why should she trust him now? There is no way he will ever be her knight in shining...she can't remember the word...knight in shining whatever! A professional bull rider turned rancher, Hart only has eyes for Kate, but she is one sassy piece of baggage - even more so than back when she was a teenager and she'd first caught his eye.
Secrets told in the church ladies' room are supposed to stay in the ladies' room. But that doesn't mean that what Trudy overhears there during her great-aunt Gertrude's funeral won't change the rest of her life. Trudy has a daughter in the middle of a major rebellion; a two-timing husband who has been cheating for their entire married life; and a mother with Alzheimer's residing in the local nursing home.
High-powered career woman Austin Lanier suddenly finds herself saddled with an inherited watermelon farm deep in the countryside. She's determined to sell the farm, until her new, drop-dead sexy neighbor Rye O'Donnell shows up. Rancher Rye O'Donnell thinks he's going to get a good deal on his dream property - until he meets the fiery new owner. Rye is knocked sideways when he realizes that not only is Granny Lanier's city-slicker granddaughter a savvy businesswoman, she's also sexy as hell. Suddenly Rye is a whole lot less interested in real estate and a whole lot more focused on getting Austin to set aside her stiletto heels.

Come hell or high water, Emmy Jo Massey will have a wedding. After three generations of Massey women with children out of wedlock, she wants the whole town of Hickory, Texas, to witness the legitimacy of her union with Logan Grady. But dream weddings aren't cheap. So she accepts a highly lucrative stint as a home health assistant to retired realtor, and town recluse, Seth Thomas - a decision her great-grandmother Tandy is dead-set against.
Seth isn't happy about it, either. The eighty-two-year-old doesn't want a "babysitter" - much less a Massey - something he makes clear when Emmy arrives at his house, an empty mansion built for the woman who broke his heart. But as Emmy stays and the two eventually open up to each other, she learns the reason behind a feud between Seth, Tandy, and Logan's grandfather Jesse Grady that goes back six decades. She also uncovers a secret that forever changes how she sees her past and her future...
This was a very well written story and well thought out, beautifully narrated by Brittany Pressley. Looking for the next one.
Carolyn Brown is becoming one of my favorite authors. This story had me hooked from the first few minutes. Brittany Pressley did a terrific job with this book!

A story of a small town and big people. Emma Jo is working a special job to earn enough money for a big wedding. She wants to break the Massey family curse of women having children out of wedlock. Therefore, she wants to invite the entire town to her wedding so they will know for sure that she is married. During the period before her wedding Emma Jo is also trying to get to the bottom of the mystery of the feud between her grandmother, Tandy, the man Emma Jo works for, Seth, and her fiance's grandfather, Jessie. The characters are vivid and the story caught my attention from the very first. The narrator is good.

I found this book in the Comedy section. The narrative throughout the book suggest a serious non-comical theme of a young woman whose goal it is to have big wedding so that she will be the first girl in her family to marry before having children. Her lifestyle does not support this goal. Only by God's grace does she attain it. There are other moral, or biblical, issues which are lightly addressed in the book but I found the constant contrast of the character constantly saying one thing and doing another a little confusing. The deliverance did not seem to be comical. Perhaps a satire?

I fell in love with the story from the beginning. I cried tears of joy at the end. Forgive others and yourself and live for today and sometimes you just have to let go of the past to do so!!! Please listen and enjoy.

Having lived in Texas most of my life, I feel comfortable in saying people in Texas do not have the horrid fake accents this narrator has. I almost stopped listening because I found the narrator to be so bad. The story is wonderful and I'm glad I was able to get past the terrible, fake accent of the narration and focus on the story. If you are not from the south it might not bother you.

Good idea for a story. Corny dialogue. Can't imagine anyone talking to each other that way. Not sure if the narrator made everyone sound ridiculous or if it was just the material she was given. All the men sounded the same.

This audible book was full of twists and turns, spice and vinegar. I loved envisioning the image of Seth's character when it was mentioned that he looked like Sam Elliott! This book made me laugh out loud, cry and even make comments when I thought a character was heading in the wrong direction. You will enjoy this book. This is my 2nd Carolyn Brown book. "The Ladies Room" was my first and I enjoyed that book so much that I spent an entire day listening until I was finished. Looking forward to listening or reading more of her books.
