Had to stop listening after 20 minutes

I am so gutted because I really wanted to listen to this book and hear the story. Without exception every audiobook of Paige’s that have listened to has been tremendous, albeit they do tend to start slow but if you stick with them you’re not disappointed. Only with this one I simply could not abide the narrator’s voice, think of nails down a chalkboard! That sounds cruel and I don’t mean it to be however her voice is more suited to narrating a nature documentary or some such not! chiclit with humour. I kept cringing at the forced over the top dramatic effects of her voice in reading the story.

Like I said I am really disappointed because I so enjoy Paige’s other books and have a horrible feeling I missed out on a good story but I simply cannot listen to this narrator, sorry. I tried doing so on two separate days, hoping when I came back to it the second day I would feel differently but alas I did not. Like I said she does have a good voice but definitely not for light-hearted chiclit.

Great story poor casting

I lived the story of this book and the characters and the writing style. Unfortunately when I struggled with was the narrator as I didn’t feel her ‘voice’ matched Bridget’s and her style was very stiff and felt like she was asking a question at every line! It took away from what is a beautiful story

Narrator ruins the brilliant story

If you don’t want to read a story then don’t!!

That’s the feeling I got from Jan Cramer it was a tedious chore to read out loud

If you can add your own nuances to what you are hearing then this is a great book and story line but if you can’t then steer clear as Jan doesn’t let you explore the characters with her supercilious tone throughout the reading .

Bad narrator

Narrator didn't seem to have read the book before she recorded it as she often paused in the wrong place and didn't always give the right intonation to the text she was reading. Also in common with others I didn’t feel her voice matched the character. I nearly gave up listening however, the narration improved but only towards the end. For me this spoilt the book which if read by someone else would have been much better.

Another great

Paige hasn't let us down, this book is a wonderful story! I couldn't put it down, the 10 hours flew by! I loved Bridget, and fell in love with Charlie and his very cute daughter. This is a must read. Thanks Paige!

Awesome book, terrible narrator

Massive Paige fan, absolutely love this story and this is another cracking read/listen. Cleverly written and great characters as usual.
As soon as I heard the narrator.... I thought this is not the voice or the age of the person she is portraying, she seems so much older and boring (sorry). So I agree with the other reviews, very good book but you will have to put up with the narrator.. Maybe buy it as a book instead.

Awful narration!

Such a shame that this narrator ruined this book for me. I’ve listened to all Paige Toon’s novels and had left this one till last because the reviews mentioned how bad the narrator was and it really put me off starting it. Sadly the reviews are right - I ended up listening to it on double speed to get through it as I couldn’t stand the narration but wanted to know what happened! Very much hope this narrator doesn’t read any of Paige Toon’s future books.
