Publisher's Summary

There was no money, the family was scattered, and Lucille, who had mothered them all since she was 16, was going to be married. So the house must be sold; Lucille knew that was the only sensible things to do, but the family had other ideas.

Home they came by whatever way they could, penniless and bedraggled but with certain newfound friends who were to help them to upset Lucille's plans - all her plans for a calm, settled, and sensible life.

So many fun moments in this book. Love the humor and irony.

When all the kids arrive home. :-)

"Fabulous story, fabulous choice of narrator!"
What did you love best about The Lark Shall Sing?

That narrator brought part one of the Wayne family trilogy to life for me. I'm very grateful. I'm sure to be listening to this book again, (like I've listened to all my Audible DE Stevenson's) two or three times.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really can't choose because to me, they are all part of the whole listening experience.

Which character – as performed by Stevie Zimmerman – was your favorite?

As I said, I am not able to choose one over another. I have a couple of hundred Audible books and Stevie Zimmerman rates up the top along with Barbara Rosenblat, Kate Reading, Tanya Eby, Lorelei King, Suzanne Toren, George Guidall, Juliet Stevenson, Diana Bishop, and ALL the D E Stevenson narrators.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes. I was overjoyed to finally get it on Audible. I am very pleased and very grateful to the author's heirs who have facilitated this.

    Any additional comments?

You can't go wrong with an Elizabeth Cadell. There is something for everyone. Two autobiograhical books, some romances, some mysteries, foreign travel... I have read and owned all but one that was too scarce to buy. I've been reading them since I was a teenager and will always read them in Kindle and Audible format from now on.

    "This author grows on you"

I am beginning to really like Elizabeth Cadell. Odd thing about her books, though, is that they really do require your full attention. Since I don't always do that, particularly with audionooks, I am finding her books good the first reading and very good the second listen. I hope that Audible will consider carrying more selections by this author.

    "Delightful entertainment!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this book! This family has so much charm! The love interests were wonderfully written and performed. The struggles and the resolutions are so believable. I can not wait for the next book about the Wayne family to be available on Audible,

What other book might you compare The Lark Shall Sing to and why?

All Elizabeth Cadell books are fun to read- this is one of the best!

What does Stevie Zimmerman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Stevie did a great job of making the many characters so very different from each other. I have read this book many times and I thought her interpretation of Lucille was much richer in character than I had in my mind.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment when Simon is waiting for Long John's appearance through the kitchen window. I cry every time I read this and this performance did not disappoint me- tears came again.

    Any additional comments?

How soon will Blue Sky of Spring and Six Impossible Things be available? These are the next books about the Wayne family.

    "A keeper!!!!!!"

My sister and I loved this book. It was amusing and well written. I hope they bring out the rest of this series in audio, as well as Yellow brick road, Alice Where Art Thou and others. We like the audios because we listen to them together.
