Summary

The Hurlingford family have ruled the small town of Byron for generations. Wealthy, powerful and cruel, they get what they want, every time.

Missy Wright, a Hurlingford by birth, has been shunned by her family since marrying for love, not money. Now widowed, she lives quiet existence in genteel poverty. But then a stranger arrives in town; a divorcee from Sydney. She opens Missy's eyes to the possibility of a happy ending.

Triumph Over Adversity

Well I loved it. It took a little time to get to grips but hang in there.
An fascinating and soul searching story with a hint of comedy.
Some of the content may not be very Woke but it is just a story and a fabulous ending to make everything ok.
Do not take life too seriously, just enjoy being carried away by this powerful young woman who absolutely stuck her fingers up to all that held her down.
Not sure about the friend in the library but you will seeeeeee.
Enjoy.

Nice plot and characters

I like the story and how the life in Australia in early 20th century is described.

Charming tale

A delightful, magical "Cinderella" style tale. Very well narrated. Read this book many years ago and lent it to several friends/family. All of them enjoyed it very much, most of them unable to put it down until they had finished it.
Please note, the description is incorrect in relation to Missy Wright. She is a actually a spinster living with her mother and aunt rather than formally having been married as described.

Quite good story

Quite a good story. A bit predictable in places but I enjoyed the book overall.
