Summary

First, she loses her honor; then, she loses her heart. Seventeen-year-old heiress Sarah Lennox-Matthews has one goal in mind when she begins a flirtation with dissolute Darcy Ashton, the Earl of Moreland: to annoy his uncle, the handsome and dashing Sir Nicholas Ashton.

The ruse quickly turns sour when Darcy abducts her, intent on securing her considerable fortune. Fearing the ruin of her reputation, Sarah agrees to marry him forthwith. But soon she confronts a greater challenge to her honor than being forced into a loveless marriage. Darcy’s unbearably attractive uncle arrives at Moreland manor. Although matrimony is the least of Nicholas’s concerns, he seems determined to seduce her, putting her honor at stake again...and perhaps even her heart.

so irritating

the story was interesting but the slow drooling voice of the reader made it impossible for me to continue the book I'd rather read it for my self if there was no other option for the reader
I'm sorry but I had to be honest

No story to speak of and irritating heroine

The book is well-written bit without any spark whatsoever.
The attraction between the main characters is invisible

A sadly boring listen

Well.. the story isn’t all that good. I nearly gave up because I couldn’t care less about the characters… they did grow on me but the narration definitely did not help and I found it extremely soporific. This is very sad as the ideas in the story were quite good. It would have made a better short story with a speedier narrator. So sorry not to have enjoyed it much

Not a Jane Austen!

This book is a pastiche of Pride & Prejudice, and even has the temerity to quote it! It cannot have been edited, as each chapter contains the word « chuckle » in some form at least 4 times. Yes, I counted. And the pseudo cut-glass accent in which it was read did nothing to improve the predictable story line. Don’t bother.

An attempt to create a Georgian heroine

I speed up the narrator to 1.3 on the app, made it easier to listen rather than that irritating drawl.
The story itself was irritating, a who done it, where you really don’t care who did it!!

Don't bother

The author would be appalled at the unbearably slow narrator. All in monotone. Infuriating. Probably a great novel if you can bear the torture to the end.

Overly long

This took so long to get through; I only got to the end to finally confirm what happened but it was very predictable. The synopsis was misleading, not much romance at all! Sarah was treated like a child for most of the book and to be honest the most relatable relationship was her friendship with the teenage nephew than the cold lord. Wasn’t rooting for them at all. Narrator was good considering the story line.

Horrid Narrator

Mediocre story, although would no doubt have been better read by a computerised voice. This version was dull, dragged & not at all enjoyable!

Great story!

Not the usual start to a romance but an exciting tale and full of romance. This author always produces original plots to her novels, I have listened to a number of her books and they are all interesting and enjoyable and will certainly select more!!!

Meh

Story line was predictable. The characters just seem flung together at the end and you aren't routing for their relationship
