Publisher's Summary

Lady Catherine comes to Meryton...and Mrs. Bennet gives her a piece of her mind.

Fitzwilliam Darcy is more determined than ever to win Elizabeth's love - no matter what obstacles their families place between them.

Elizabeth Bennet is growing to love Darcy, but a life-threatening secret threatens to dash her hopes for their happily-ever-after.

When a matron is found murdered in the midst of a militia parade, Darcy soon discovers the strength of the victim's enemies...and their closeness to Elizabeth. Can Darcy protect her when she is determined to bring the murderer to justice?

With a cold-blooded killer on the loose and their hearts on the line, can Darcy and Elizabeth work together to solve another mystery while fighting for each other?

The Indomitable Miss Elizabeth is the second novel in Jennifer Joy's A Meryton Mystery romance series set in England's captivating Regency era - when a gentleman's manners were regarded as highly as a lady's reputation and a happy marriage was the ultimate prize (although a fortune was never frowned upon).

If you like falling in love with Mr. Darcy and Miss Elizabeth as they fall for each other, then you'll love this sweet romance-mystery variation of Jane Austen's timeless classic, Pride and Prejudice.

Listen to The Indomitable Miss Elizabeth to satisfy your craving for a fast-paced mystery interwoven with a heartwarming, wholesome romance today!

    "Clean romance with a mystery!"
What about Nancy Peterson’s performance did you like?

This narrator is really good. She gave each character their individual personality and I could differentiate between them. Would highly recommend listening to audio books narrated by Nancy Peterson.

    Any additional comments?

I loved this book. I've never read a pride and prejudice retelling with a mystery. I must admit that I didn't guess who did it and was surprised when I found out who it was and why they did it.

I gave it four stars because I found Elizabeth to be really annoying at times. She doubted D'Arcy a lot and why he was doing the things he did. Except for this I thought it was a really good read.

We meet a lot of the main characters from pride and prejudice as well as the minor characters who have a bigger role in this book.

Would recommend this book to all since there is no bad language or sexual content. There is some mild violence.

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

    "P&P Variation with Mystery ;-)"

I didn't start with book one in this series and I don't think I absolutely had to. But, now that I finished book 2 I'm definitely going to get book 1 to see what I've missed. I'm also going to check out other books the author has written. :-)

This is a well written and delightful romantic mystery. The characters are written with respect to the original (P&P) book. The story kept my attention throughout and the mystery did not disappoint. As always, Nancy Peterson narrates beautifully. Her narration is always a treat to my ears.

    Story
    "What Else Could Go Wrong?"

After clearing his name of Wickham's murder in the first novel, Darcy and Elizabeth still have a long way to go before their happily ever after. The story begins with Mrs. Bennett and her five daughters shopping in Meryton. Lizzy meets Darcy as he enters the town, and perpetual matchmaker Mrs. Bennett convinces Darcy to escort Lizzy home. Lizzy hasn't seen Darcy in over two weeks and things are still uncertain between them. While Lizzy hasn't allowed herself to give her whole heart to Darcy, she has given him permission to court her. Darcy walks her home, and their wonderful flirtation over books gives him hope.

Returning to Meryton, Darcy and Col Fitzwilliam are dismayed to see Lady Catherine de Bourgh and Anne arrive to stay at the local inn. Anne is overtaken by a shocking illness, and the family struggles to keep it quiet. During the militia's parade a few days later, Elizabeth discovers the body of a person very dear to her. Overwhelmed with grief, she determines to find the murderer and bring them to justice.

Rather than being a rehash of the same events from the original Pride and Prejudice, this is a completely fresh plot. The introduction of new shopkeepers and other residents of Meryton expand the familiar circle of characters and keep the story fresh. There are a few characters introduced in the first book that appear in this one but it's easy to infer what their relationships are without lengthy explanations. This can truly be read as a standalone novel without spoiling the ending of the first book.

Darcy and Lizzy are portrayed perfectly in this version, and their interactions and conversations are so sweet. We get a glimpse of a new side to Mr. Bennett that I loved. A new father figure for Darcy is introduced, and I hope we see more of him in future novels.

Good luck guessing the identity of the killer! The murder plot is nicely done and there are well placed red herrings and clues throughout. There are a few twists and reveals that had me gasping and hitting the rewind button to make sure that I heard right. The mystery and the romance are given equal weight in the story and they don't detract from each other.

Nancy Peterson was the perfect narrator for this book. From the beginning I loved her voices for each character, especially Mrs. Bennett and Lady Catherine. They just seemed so authentic and sounded exactly like I pictured them. The narrator read the humorous bits with a pleasant smile in her voice like she's sharing the joke with us. She didn't overact or make the narration too dramatic, and her pace was perfect. It was the perfect combination of author and narrator.

    "Good mystery book."

I found this book enjoyable. I only wish there was more development of Elizabeth's and Darcy's relationship but I'm assuming that occurs in the first book. Lots of surprises. Narrator did a good job.

    "Enjoyable Regency Mystery Romance"

Jennifer Joy is a newer author to me, and I have heard Nancy Peterson before. I listened to this book without having listened to the first, and had no problem. This is a twist on Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice book with more mystery and romance. Clean listen, but not as steamy as my typical listens. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge upon my request by the author, narrator, and or publisher. I would listen to more books by this author and or narrator.

"So fittingly a story for Elizabeth Bennett!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Indomitable Miss Elizabeth to be better than the print version?

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.
I always enjoy listening to audiobooks because the narrator can really allow the characters to come alive. I have not read the printed version however, so I cannot compare the two.

What other book might you compare The Indomitable Miss Elizabeth to and why?

Logically Jane Austen... However lately there have been some "remakes" of Jane Austen's novels for us addicts. Of the ones I have already read, "Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict (Jane Austen Addict, #1)" by Laurie Viera Rigler, more closely reminds me of this book.

What does Nancy Peterson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Her personality and interpretation

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Indomitable Miss Elizabeth's Tragic Mystery

    Any additional comments?

I have truly enjoyed listening to this audiobook and look forward to listen to other novels by the author.
